That really, but in addition she is taking longer to fall asleep! She is only getting 10 hours compared to her usual 11.5/12 hasnt napped since 18mo anyway so doesn't top up in the day and isn't really all that tired during the day either.

Is it normal after they lose a comfort for sleeping they can take a while to get into a self soothe routine? We are only on day 5 of no dummy has been really smooth otherwise.

Thanks! :-)

Well, she won't be 15 and still using a dummy so, better now than later. What routine do you have? Every child is different, and whilst they do need a minimum, in the early years this can change and very for a while whilst they go through various life stages.

So normal and keep in mind how young she is. My older ds has a bedtime bottle till he was 4! Complete suciroty blanket but encouraging it to go was done at the right time and these things work out.

And yes, sorry to not answer your question- if that's how she got to sleep before then she'll in all likelihood take longer to get to sleep as she no longer has that "method" to rely on that she used before. Typically it'll even out, but it's all stages at this age so, for now, it may take her longer but she'll be ok in the long runm

It’s a good thing she’s got rid of it herself, some kids hang on for years!

As for sleep, that changes so much throughout the years. There’ll always be a phase they are going through.

Thanks guys. Looked over other threads for 5 mins and came back to some good comments!

She likes to fall asleep to noise and we are thinking of doing a story time/sleepy sounds at night. We just don't want to crowbar anything new in yet as we want her to go at least 2 weeks without dummy to see if she does in fact start going to sleep at her usual time. As I type I can hear her chatting away! Lol.

Op I just put my 3 to bed (ages 6.5 years and under) and they all love a bit of quiet music still to fall asleep to. Nothing wrong with that : ) Anything is worth a try, give some white noise or music a go and see how she does?

Frokni · 29/02/2020 20:56

@Youjustdoyou do u have an old school CD player or do you use apps? I can imagine your LOs drift off peacefully I love falling asleep to quiet music. :-)

@MoonBaby1 well, funnily enough the right time was thrust upon us as our dear girl bit a chunk out of her tongue as she slipped on a climbing frame at the childminders on Tuesday Sad

We were not planning on saying goodbye to the dummy just yet lol. But her tongue has just been too uncomfortable to take it so we have just rolled with it! As long as a comfort blanky works then keep it as long as you can! Smile

Aps and YouTube :) Relax Melodies I've used for years for the free white noise when they were each staying in with me, now I play a classical piano station from amazon music on the phone for one child (just whilst he falls asleep, i take the phone back now he sleeps all the way through at the grand old age of 6 and a half years 😁) and choose whatever gentle "send babies to sleep" 8 hour long YouTube video on the laptop and just turn the brightness off (take that back too as the girls have slept through for ages).
