Any idea... She has never slept through!!! (DS and DD slept through at 6 and 9 weeks old... guess I am paying the price for being smug then!!!)
This one is also fully BF.
She is on BLW... and finally eating decent amounts.
Two weeks ago she was on a series of only 1 waking... but for the past 3 nights we have 11, 2 and 4... don't tell me she is hungry at all 3 feeds ! And she cries... if you don't go to her she doesn't stop... well I haven't left her for longer than 10 mins (once 20 mins).

Any idea???

3-4ozs is ok though and she could be thirsty as well as a bit hungry. Nothing wrong with doing it for comfort at this young age either imo I think they're entitled to it

I agree... My mum has suggested thirst before so maybe I could try her with a drop of water instead of a bottle of milk

DS was a crap sleeper for most of the first year of his life, bf back to sleep was the only thing. He is now nearly 14 months and things seem to be improving. I have not bf him between bedtime and 5am for about 6 weeks. I sent DH in with a beaker of water and instructions to cuddle for as long as necessary, the first few nights there was some crying but actually not that much and he settled pretty quickly with DH. Compare this to a few months ago when we tried it - DS screamed the place down so we decided to back off for a bit and I went back to bf to sleep again until we were ready to try again. I didn't really want to force the issue but I was knackered and back at work part time.

I am also back to work 4 days a week. it's so tiring but I know that it will happen when she is ready. I think I will try a cup of water instead though, it can't hurt to try and undoubtedly she'll soon let me know if that's not what she wants!

Well just to say that DD just slept through... it was 6h30 this AM.. so it is worth trying ... it's only taken us 9 nights and there has been improvements every night. She only woke 1 of my kids one night from her crying.

Good to hear that your little one is sleeping better Pupuce.

IME it is all down to what the parents can cope with. Some can cope with being woken lots and can just wait for the baby to grow out of it (they all do!) and others can't and have to do something.

I have 4 night waking children - all slept through naturally on their own between 2 and 3 years old with no hassle for me, but I can cope with waking up and actually enjoy that time at night - knowing how quickly the early years are over and enjoying every aspect as much as possible is key to my own philosophy. (mind you, my secret is napping myself in the day most days with the baby so whether I get my 8 hrs at night or at night & in the day - it all ends up the same).

I would try the gradual retreat if I were to try anything just because I can't bear to hear my children cry when I can so easily comfort them but I have friends who have tried all of them. The only thing is that colds/teething/illness/holidays etc tend to get you back to square one and you have to start all over again. Mine have all woken at night and then just on their own slept through from average 2.5 and then been fantastic sleepers who sleep through pretty much anything!

Not sure why I think this post will add anything?! Maybe just give a bit of hope to anyone with night-waking children who can't do the cry it out solutions but want to know there is light at the end of the tunnel!
