Dummy

My daughter is 14 months, she has only ever had a dummy to sleep which a lot of people says great but I actually am not so sure as it's a strong sleep association BUT either way this is the route we've gone down and it's worked for us. Iv started to not give her a dummy in the car and pram in she's due a nap and see if she will drift off with out one which is working 50% of the time. But in the cot she points to where there kept before she's even put down.

She's still young and I'm not in any desperate need to take it away but I was just hoping for some tips for when it's time!

My LO is 17 months now and like you only has the dummy for sleep. It's worked well for us but every time he gets a cold he cant breathe and suck a dummy at the same time so he really suffers. Each time I think I'll try and stop the dummy but chicken out. He took so long to start sleeping through and have long naps that's I dont want to ruin it. Did you have any luck getting rid of it?

Sorry for the delay!!! So I decided that wasn't the right time for us either but In December her vocabulary picked up so good that I could have conversations with her and felt she would really understand and even get on board if I made it fun. She had 4 dummies that she recognised as hers and we done the dummy fairy ... My DD loves painting so I got a plain box and let her paint it and we put the dummies in and put them on the door step ... then replaced with a gift bag of goodies and a few troll toys that she LOVED. She was quite amazed. That days nap wasn't bad ... it was all fresh in her mind and she took An hour to go to sleep but she finally did and then had a full 2 hour nap which I didn't think would happen. That night she did get really upset but I explain the fairy has them now and DD had the treats and toys and she wasn't overly happy and again took ages to get to sleep but stayed asleep all night and woke up her normal time. For 3 days she was restless and upset before bed and naps on and off but after that she wasn't upset but she did mention it every night for about 6 weeksConfused just saying "I no dummy's, fairy has dummy's I have poppy cup" (her favourite thing in the gift bag) but just all of an sudden stopped. Her baby brother has a dummy and she hasn't been funny about that at all because I really highlight that his a baby and she's a big girl which is all she wants to be these days. Even started potty training by herself this week Shock

I actually think all things parenting, give it a week and if it doesn't work then you tried ... whether that be sleep training, dummy's, cot sleeping etc all the things us mums feel judged about. Xx
