Baby monitor waking baby!?

girlmummy25 · 18/02/2020 21:40

This may sound really odd but my DD who is 8 months sometimes wakes after ive checked the video baby monitor... could it be the night vision on the camera thats over her cot waking her?
It happens too much to be a coincidence but not every time.
She always seems to wake when I go to bed even though im pretty much silent (i seem to check the monitor before bed so could be either)
Just seems odd & wondered if anybody else had noticed anything similar?

When you say you’re checking the monitor, what exactly are you doing?

girlmummy25 · 18/02/2020 21:50

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat im just looking at her on the handheld parent unit that makes the noise if she cries (the bit you take to your own bedroom at night)

Do you move the monitor to see her? Our monitor makes a noise when I move it around.

Figmentofimagination · 18/02/2020 21:52

Sorry, do you move the camera around I mean?

FenellaMaxwell · 18/02/2020 21:53

We get this too. And then I realise that what’s actually happening is I’m picking up the monitor to check it because I’ve subconsciously tuned into a small noise or shit in breathing or whatever that signals a wake up, and this is then followed by the wake up after I pick up the monitor.

FenellaMaxwell · 18/02/2020 21:53

SHIFT

hiimmumma · 18/02/2020 21:54

This happens to me and I thought the same as you, but now I think whatever might be making me check the monitor and is also disturbing my son.

I.e an outside noise or him stirring prompts me to check the monitor but is also the same reason he then wakes up 2 mins later..

girlmummy25 · 18/02/2020 21:54

@Figmentofimagination no it doesnt even have the ability to move around so im just confused! It has 4 tiny red lights on the actual camera that come on when I check the parent unit for the night vision to work so im wondering if its that

OP posts:
hiimmumma · 18/02/2020 21:54

Yes what @FenellaMaxwell said

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 18/02/2020 21:55

How can you looking at a screen in a separate room wake her though? It has to be a coincidence. Unless you have very noisy eyeballs Grin

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 18/02/2020 21:56

So are you turning it off and on? You didn’t say that....

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 18/02/2020 21:56

Just leave it switched on. I thought that’s what everyone did.

girlmummy25 · 18/02/2020 21:57

@FenellaMaxwell @hiimmumma you both have the same theory and that did cross my mind at one point! I think you may be right as ive woken up in the middle of the night a few times and not even checked the monitor and bam within a couple minutes she cries so maybe im hearing her before she wakes but I just dont register it properly

@girlmummy25

Do the red lights on the camera only come on when you activate the parent screen?

Have you tried staying in the room and then someone else checking the monitor to see if it does anything that could be disruptive?

Seems odd and counterproductive that that would happen! (Not that I don't believe you just that it's a massive design flaw)

girlmummy25 · 18/02/2020 22:00

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat its always on but the screen on the parent unit goes black after a while (to save battery i guess or it would battery die pretty quick) so I have to then touch the screen to 'wake' the parent unit which then turns the tiny red lights on the camera on

OP posts:
hiimmumma · 18/02/2020 22:00

Ah yeah I don't think I've ever turned mine off off. Just muted it or turned the screen off!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 18/02/2020 22:08

Ah ok. Mines different.

EmmaT93 · 18/02/2020 22:12

Can you stick blue tac over the lights?

Tulio · 18/02/2020 22:16

I’ve got a lollipop one, so not the same, but the aperture clicks with changing light, to allow for night vision to turn on. So maybe yours does the same? If your baby is in a light phase of sleep it may be enough to wake them?

girlmummy25 · 18/02/2020 22:38

@EmmaT93 unfortunately not, its the red light that allows it to see in the dark for night vision (infared little lights like on your tv remote)

Just to let you all know its the Angel Care video monitor I have that you get the movement monitor mat with (i dont use the mat though)

You're looking because you're hearing the shuffles/ start of a wake up as you're asleep so wake up and check.
