What’s your 9 week olds sleep routine like?

Just curious to the above really...
My DS is EBF... he usually goes down about 8.30, then wakes anywhere between 12- 2 for a feed then pretty much up every 2 hours after that.
Look forward to hearing from others xx

At 9 weeks anything goes really.

3rdtimelucky2019 · 10/02/2020 08:49

Sleep by 9.30. Wake about 2.40, back down about 3.40, awake 5.30/6.

That was last night but that's a fairly standard pattern. Saturday he did a 9.40-4.40 which astounded us.

3rdtimelucky2019 · 10/02/2020 08:50

Forgot to add - first five weeks was every 90 mins so this is a fairly new thing. He's mix fed but probably 70% boob.

RhymingRabbit3 · 10/02/2020 08:55

What routine 😂

Gettingonabitnow · 11/02/2020 03:32

Sleep 9.30pm, up anywhere between 2.30-3.30am for 90 mins, then up again usually between 6-7. Cat naps during day.

CornishPasties · 11/02/2020 03:55

Routine?? What the fork is one of those. Grin If he sleeps for longer than 2 hours in a row I consider it a minor miracle. Most nights its every hour to 90 mins. The little whatsit clearly feels he will miss out on something if he sleeps longer than that. Smile

Kate3150 · 11/02/2020 16:58

@CornishPasties- You’re my hero! Is this your first?? First timer here and feel like I’ve been hit by a truck 🤣 xx

There is no routine at 9 weeks, try 4 months

Pinkflipflop85 · 11/02/2020 17:04

Routine = anything goes

We're approaching 4 month sleep regression now and I miss the newborn stage!

MKCH · 11/02/2020 17:08

DD is 8.5 weeks. We usually go to sleep at 10-10.30 (well she usually goes to sleep at about 9.30) then up somewhere between 3-4.30 for a feed for about an hour, then sleeps until 7-7.30ish, then we get up (she might decide to nap again for a bit, but not for a long time). This is pretty standard every night.

Last night though......

She went to sleep at 11pm (as did I) and woke up at 7am, fed for 15 mins and went back to sleep again for an hour! I didn't know what to do with myself! And she's now been sleeping pretty much all day....
I'm putting it down to a growth spurt or developmental leap!

LoisLittsLover · 11/02/2020 17:10

Dd is 8 weeks

Sometimes nap on me from 8:30pm onwards
10pm, take her upstairs for pj's sleeping bag etc
Feed to sleep, put her in cot around 11
Sometimes wakes at 1am
Alwaya wakes at 3am and 6am
7am - up for the day

We have to do the school run so this has forced her into a bit of a routine I think, with dd1 she was definitely all over the place at this age

Kate3150 · 11/02/2020 17:18

Thanks guys for your reassurance, I’ve been putting pressure on myself to try and get him into some sort of routine but everyday is different.
I know this question is bilmmin hard to answer but is there a stage where they get a bit more predictable with feeds etc? X

DS is 10weeks his routine has been the same for the last three weeks.

Bath at 9.15. Bottle and story at 9.30ish and then to bed. He will occasionally stir at 4am for his dummy and then straight back to sleep until 6.15ish

CornishPasties · 11/02/2020 17:20

You’re my hero! Is this your first??

Aww I've never been called someones hero before. Blush He is indeed my first, at this rate he will be my last too, I feel like an extra from the walking dead. GrinGrin

3rdtimelucky2019 · 11/02/2020 20:02

Mine did the every hour thing for a while. Spent many early hours sat on the edge of the bed sobbing because he wouldn't bloody sleep.

Last night he slept 9.45-5am and I think he only woke up then because I shook his leg to check he was ok 🙄 my own worst enemy

Megan2018 · 11/02/2020 20:06

We are 21 weeks and no routine- they change all the time, just go with the flow. They have leaps and growth spurts and feeding changes as a result

89redballoons · 11/02/2020 20:51

My nine week old is also EBF.

We try to do bath for 8pm, lullabies and as long a feed as I can manage to try and tank him up for the night. We then swaddle and put him down in the side sleeper. The longest he's ever slept for that first stretch is 4 hours 45 mins, it's usually closer to 3 hours 30 mins though so I expect a wakeup about midnight/1am. He'll wake up every two/three hours after that (or on a bad night, more frequently), and I'll feed, re-swaddle and put back down.

DH has started taking him at 6am and going for a walk with him in the sling, which is brilliant as I get another 90mins-ish uninterrupted sleep before DH leaves for work. DS is then firmly up for the day at 7.30.

He'll generally have a longish nap of up to two hours around lunchtime, and catnaps after feeds in the morning and afternoon. He will reliably sleep for naps either in our arms or in the pram or sling or car. I'm trying to gently encourage him to sleep in the pram carrycot for the long nap, just trying to put him down there if he's falling asleep on me and seeing if he will settle for a bit, so I can eat lunch with two hands/snooze myself/tidy up a bit etc.

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/02/2020 21:05

I find using 120ml expressed breastmilk is the only thing that allows my 9 week old to sleep 3-4 hours at a time. On the days I can’t express enough he will cluster feed for the whole day, cat napping for 30-40mims between feeds before sleeping in a single 4 hour chunk

NeverGotMyPuppy · 11/02/2020 22:47

OP when my son was about that age my friend sent me the Little Ones programme which was a routine to get your baby into. The whole thing was about 90 pages.

I dont exaggerate when I say I can almost pinpoint my descent into PNA trying to read it.

At 9 weeks - all I would be doing is making bedtime clear - bath if you want, quiet, dark, calm etc. Other than that- just hold on!

Pinkflipflop85 · 12/02/2020 07:13

@NeverGotMyPuppy I was similar with the bastard baby whisperer. That book made my PND and anxiety so much worse and I ended up extremely unwell.

Best thing I ever did was throw away that bloody book and decide to go with the flow.

forevercurious · 12/02/2020 11:05

Reading all of these responses and feeling relieved! DS is now 10 weeks and I feel like I should be getting him into more of a sleep routine but I’m finding it very hard. Currently DS who is EBF is fed to sleep around 9:30-10:00pm he then usually sleeps for 3 to 4 hours, stirs so is fed for around 10ish mins and goes straight back to sleep in the next to me crib. He will then sleep for 2 to 3 hours, feed and repeat.

I’m currently trying to get him to nap for longer in the day as he’s wakes after 40ish minutes and cannot go back to sleep without another cuddle, rocking etc.

FraterculaArctica · 12/02/2020 11:10

8.5 weeker here. No routine as such, generally up for the day around 7 but that's mostly because we have to get up then to get DC1 and 2 to school. Usually does one long sleep during day and loads of catnaps, some in car. EBF and co sleeping and usually goes in 3 hour blocks at night, sometimes more, sometimes less. I think he's pretty good really. Especially compared to DC 1 who was a sleepless disaster!
