So, my son is just over 2. He goes to nursery 3/4 days a week and I have shame that he arrives half asleep and all the other kids are bright and lively. He wakes at 7.15 and goes to sleep anywhere between 23.00 and 01.00. He sleeps at nursery for a couple of hours. He just shows no signs of wanting to sleep before 23.00. What can we do????? Any advice would be great

Hi, that sounds so tiering. I feel for you. I would create a bed time routine rather than waiting for ques.

Our routine was bath at 6:30pm then read books then bed by 7:15pm. We don't give my son a bath every night anymore just every other day but while you're creating a routine daily will be easier. Do all this with lots of communication, so 15 mins before bath start saying its bath then book then bed time. Then give 5 minute warning. While in bath say book time soon etc.

I would give that a week of trying and if he's not responding to it then I would seriously consider controlled crying. If you google it you'll find lots of info on it. It is quite brutal and stressful so you have to be committed to doing it, but it's so worth it! After 2 nights my son got it. My son has no troubles going to sleep now.

Here's a link to controlled crying...

Just think of the evenings you'll have back to yourself!

Yeah I'd agree with establishing a bedtime routine, and that's when he goes to bed irrespective of whether he's tired. Even if that means you have to sit with him for a few hours until he falls asleep in the beginning.

Thanks for the advice. Ok, it's Monday (a nursery day) so a good day to start :)

@ChrisMark hows it been?

Well, last few days has been ok. We tired him out with games and the like and then took him for a drive at 21.00 (late I know) and it worked well. Slept through no probs. It hasn't worked today though. Well awake as I type at 23.00 - we live in Europe.
