  1. Your child was waking once very briefly in the night and quickly reassured with a kiss, cuddle, drink and straight back to sleep with no tears.
  1. Your child was in any way unwell.

  2. Your child seemed to be 'afraid' or anxious rather than seeking attention generally.

No, no and no! TBH I have never done it, but I don't think you are meant to try it if they are not v well

blossomhill · 01/10/2004 12:32

yingers74 · 01/10/2004 20:40

hey prefernot, in regards to 1, I would if you or dh were getting very tired, but wouldn't if it is not a prob!

regarding 2, i would not
regarding 3, i would not but have no idea how you would combat this.

hercules · 01/10/2004 20:46

No for 2 and 3. Depends what time for 1.

jacobscreek · 01/10/2004 20:48

cc?

mrsflowerpot · 01/10/2004 20:50

no for 2 and 3. Depends how disruptive you're finding 1 - if it's not a problem for you and dh, then it's not a problem imo. If it's wearing you out then yes.

mrsflowerpot · 01/10/2004 20:50

controlled crying, by the way

marthamoo · 01/10/2004 20:51

CC is controlled crying, gr8m8 and jacobscreek - where you leave your baby/child to cry for gradually extended periods of time in the hope that they learn to settle themselves to sleep.

jacobscreek · 01/10/2004 20:51

thanks, sorry if i sounded thick or rude!!!!!

marthamoo · 01/10/2004 20:54

prefernot · 01/10/2004 21:49

Thanks for the replies. I asked because we did it with dd (now nearly 2) very successfully at 15 months but lately she's been waking in the night and before I did anything about it she got ill and has remained so which is making her waking worse and changing her night time expectations. I also feel the waking this time is different to a few months ago not just because she's unwell but also because she seems genuinly distressed.

For now I'm going with what she wants / needs until she's well again then I'll have to rethink.
