Sitting up in cot at sleep time & head banging - any ideas!

My DD (9.5 months) has just learnt to go from lying to sitting. So thats what she does....all the time. She used to be ok with her sleeps in the day (nighttime dummy issues but thats a separate story). Now - I put her down & she sits up & bangs her head on the end of the cot. I am going in to lay her down sometimes 10 times before she is so tired she goes off. I have tried leaving her, and she then does fall asleep sort of half sitting up - I can then go in and lay her down but it seems a bit mean!! Is this just a phase? Or are there any tips!! My DH has suggested nailing her grobag to the cot (I think he is joking!!) Thanks

I personally think you should leave her and only go in to sort her out if she's got herself wedged somehow. Otherwise she will learn that this gets your attention. Does she have any soft toys in her cot that you can place strategically where she is most likely to fall against the side of the cot??? Ultimately they have to learn how to get up and down safely so in some ways, her hitting her head is just part of the process and she'll try harder to sort herself out safely and learn more quickly (IMO). I'm a cruel mum

Yes she has lots of soft toys in the cot. I think you are right - otherwise she is going to start doing it to get me to come in! It is just such a culture shock - when for months she has gone down without a murmur!!

I'm just resigned myself - if it isn't one culture shock, it's another.....

My dd sits up. I kept going in and laying her down, but in the end left her to fall asleep sat up. She used to fall asleep on her bunny, and seemed quite happy, in fact grizzled if we tried to move her

How dark is it in there? Personally I would make it as dark as possibel and hide the toys from sight too.
