ds is nearly 8 months, and naps are going a bit to pot at the moment. Since he's been about 12 weeks old he's always woke at 7.30 ish and had a short nap of about 30-45 mins am, and then a 2hr sleep at noon. This worked fine, and he got into this pattern himself, as he always woke at the 45 minute point in the morning anyway.
But, since starting solids, havig a short nap am is becoming more of a problem, as when it gets close to lunchtime, he is struggling to stay awake through his lunch, and starts rubbing his eyes before he's had much. Tried giving him lunch earlier, but then is not ready for it. So, tried to get him to start having a longer nap in the morning, and for last few days he's had 1hr to 1.5hrs, so has ate his lunch a lot better. But today, he was still shattered by 12, 12.30, even though he'd slept from 9 til 10.30. Then only had a 40 min sleep from 12.45 till 1.25. So is now shattered again, and will need another decent sleep to get to bedtime. Is teething as well, so may have slept better if not for that.
Anyway, sorry for rambling, but does anyone know best way to get round this. Ideally, 1.5 hrs am and 1.5 hrs pm would suit him better at the moment, but how far apart should these be roughly?
Can anyone give any advice?

Dd did 2 naps at that age of 1-1.5 hours each. She got up at 7ish, had a nap at 10ish, lunch at 12.30ish then I'd take her out for a while and she'd have a second nap around 3-3.30pm and it never seemed to matter if she woke as late as 5pm at that stage. It all changed around 15 months when we switched to one after lunch nap only. Now she's almost 2 and is still in roughly the same pattern as she was at 15 months.

both of ours did 2 long naps as well at this age. DS, our youngest used to only manage 2/2.5 hours awake and then slept for 2 hours and woke for an other 2/2.5 hours iyswim. Undoubtedly you'll go through a stage when you'll need to give an early lunch at 11.30 or a mid morning snack and then a late lunch, but this is for only a few months and soon passes until they get to the stage when they only need/want one nap a day, usually after lunch. It is tricky but it gets better for you and them

Urg ... Poppyseed, those damned shade-a-babe things ... grrrr .......

hi poppyseed, yes I bought the shade a babe to take on holiday, but didn't have much sun, so never used it. He will sleep in pushchair, but no more than about 30 minutes. Am going to try it though, as would like him to sleep in it longer, on hols etc!!
