Trapped wind causing NO sleep

Little boy is 7 weeks old. Now exclusively formula fed Aptamil but was mixed fed until 6 weeks. On a night especially he gets really gripey about an hour after a feed. Writhing in the Snuzpod, straining and going bright red in the face. He usually lets out a couple of trumps but still won't settle. He's not constipated as usually does 1-2 big blow out poos a day. He lets out little cries like he's really in pain, and then needs soothing back to sleep. This will then happen again 20 minutes later.
We make sure we get a burp out of him after every ounce and also at the end of a feed. We've tried infacol, dentinox, co lactase, 2 days of gavisgon in case it was silent reflux, and now onto gripe water with no avail!

This has been going on for about 5 weeks and I get roughly 45 minutes sleep between midnight and 7am.

FYI he has 3-4 hourly feeds during the day and the night, has never gone longer than this. Currently on 4oz feeds.

Please please please leave your suggestions or tell me it gets better soon?

One thing we were recommended by our GP for trapped wind was onion water! Sounds weird but it worked well. Cut up half an onion and pour some boiling water over it, leave to soak and then give baby a bit before each feed (Around 1-2tbsp). Bit of a pain during the night but worth it. Our baby grew out of these sort of tummy issues by about ten weeks. But he did have very bad silent reflux so if you think it could be that, try lifting the head of his cot/bassinet, and also holding upright for 30 mins after feeds. Those early weeks are so tough with all their digestive problems but it does get better!

It does get better. I went through this with mine and I think it's because their digestive system is crap and once they can move more they can fart more easily.

Oh my god please don't do this!

You're doing everything right, babies just have really awful digestive systems. Things will improve. We used baby stretching and massage with our DS and he would pass so much wind whilst we were doing it. Have a look at this video and see if you think it could be of use to you.

Good luck!

Change your milk

Twiglet2353 · 13/01/2020 16:51

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. Pleased to know it will hopefully pass within the month.

Do you think it is worth changing the milk or persevering? Did you have these issues on Aptamil @Loveliveexplore

And thanks for the video @June705 - I've just done a little now after his bath as he was a bit unsettled. We're signed up to start baby massage this week so hopefully will help ease things along

Yes I did have those issues with one of my twins and switched to hipp organic milk and it all went away. So it's worth a try.

Loveliveexplore · 13/01/2020 17:09

I immediately noticed a difference so I would switch milks asap.

Twiglet2353 · 18/01/2020 14:45

@Loveliveexplore I've made the switch today. Only one feed down but it does seem to compare to EBM in consistency so fingers crossed. One thing though - packaging a bloody nightmare! I've seen they sell a storage tin but you still have to keep the powder in the foil bags. Can I ask what you use?
