Hi there
I have a DD1 who is almost 3 and aDS2 who is 9.5 weeks old.
My DD1 attends pre school and seems to have a virus or something similar every few weeks.
My DS2 has already had 2 colds and I think another one is brewing.
It's draining because I'm constantly worried about DS2 getting poorly from his sister.
I'm considering taking her out of pre school until he's bigger so he can not always have a cold ( at the least).
Im wondering if any of you in/ been in this situation would do the same or is it unfair to take her away from mixing? None of my friends have children so it's her only way to mix really.
For any of you who have been through this ...is it just par for the course?
Like I said I want DD1 to have her play and learning time but am protective of my son who seems so vulnerable.
Thanks !

Yes, in same situation! Have sent her to preschool as she loves it and was desperate to get back after Christmas. We’re just taking what precautions we can - she’s had the flu vaccination, lots of hand washing and get her straight in the bath when we get home or at least change clothes. We haven’t had a bug yet but am bracing myself for it!

Congratulations on the new arrival.

It is a bit par for the course. But you can minimise it by all washing hands as soon as you come in the house. Look at your daughter's diet - make sure she's as healthy as possible. Lots of fruit and veg. Lots of home cooked food and natural probiotics. Lots of fresh air and running around outside to stay healthy.

The bugs this Christmas have been the worst ever around here. So you might just have got unlucky.

I agree re hand washing as soon as she comes in from school and hand gel at regular intervals. DN was taught how to wash her hands properly at nursery (webbing, under nails, wrists etc) and was nearly always the only child in her class to escape transmissable illnesses - I don’t think that was a coincidence!

Thanks for your replies .
I know her nursery are good with hand washing and I'm a nurse so I know correct hand washing method.
Just seems to get us which I know happens with children ..it's just worrying .

IDon't take her out of preschool. Your baby will be building up immunity and it's really not healthy to be protected from every bug going. They have to live in the real world. What if you or his father were teachers you would be in contact with bugs all the time that you could pass on. Just take necesarry precautions and make sure your daughter has had all her vaccinations including the flu vaccination.

I've been there- twice! DD1 was 22 months when DD2 was born. By the time she was 3 months old, DD2 had already had 4 rounds of colds/coughs. I mentioned it to the GP when she was having her vaccinations (I was worried about her immune system being completely overwhelmed) and was told "she'll have an immune system of steel when she grows up!". Turned out to be pretty accurate actually! Apart from the occasional cold, at 3 years old she's been far healthier than most kids I know (and she's been in nursery for 18 months surrounded by bugs).
DD3 (9 months old) has also been exposed to plenty of colds/coughs (and a bit of sickness brought home from school by DD1) and has a permanent crusty nose! But it's just par for the course. As long as you practise good hand hygiene and try to prevent older DCs coughing in the babys face (not always easy!), there's not much more you can do. Don't stress too much about it.

Thank you all. My daughter and son are up to date with all jabs including the flu vaccine so apart from enduring hand hygiene I suppose I've just got to re lax a bit
