Did you have to train your baby to nap longer or did it just happen?

I've read that you can train your baby to have longer naps in the day. But is that necessary? I was hoping they'd just learn to do it Confused
My little girl is nearly 8 months and just has 3 x 30 minute cat naps in the day. Although she didn't have her last nap today so I think she is dropping that one gradually.
Any advice welcome Smile

I've never done any sleep training with my DD, just followed her lead. She's also 8 months and has 2 naps a day most days. Usually a 30-40 minute one and a 1-2hr one. I find she sleeps a lot better and longer in her cot than anywhere else I think because she can roll over whatever way she wants and it's quiet so nothing to disturb her.

Ah interesting. The issue I also have is that my daughter isn't sleep trained and currently only goes to sleep with me next to her. This probably isn't helping things. Thanks for your reply, will have to try her in the cot x

DS is 18 months and has one very long nap (2.5h usually). At 8m he was still doing 2-3 a day and it gradually changed without any intervention or training.

My boy is 9 months and he was a cat napper, would have 3 or 4 30 minute naps per day. Suddenly at about 7 months he started sleeping for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon and sometimes a third 30 minute nap. He’ll now have one 90 minute nap on some days and a shorter in the afternoon. Averages about 2 to 2.5 hours of sleep per day. He only naps for longer in his cot, if we’re out he’ll only sleep for 30 minutes still.
It just happened really. Coincided with weaning and generally being in the house more so putting him in his cot for naps but I couldn’t say if they were the reasons!
His changes in nap habits hasn’t affected his night sleep.
