What time is tour toddlers bedtime?

Interested to know what time people are putting toddlers to bed.

My DS is 2 next week and due to him staying awake till 9/10pm, we have started sleep training whereby his new routine is:
Bath 6:15
Into bedroom for story book/pj's 6:45
Lights out 7.

It's taking till at least 8/8:30 for him to get to sleep still (training has only been for the last 5 nights)- but I am wondering if I've set his bedtime too early? He seem to be falling asleep about 8- do I shift the routine back an hour?

He has 1 x lunchtime nap which has always been better, & over the past week he has been falling asleep for those quicker -within 5 mins- and with minimal shh/pat help.

Persevere with 7pm or push it back to
8pm?

My 2 yo is usually asleep by 7.30/8 latest. I find I need to tire her out a bit in the afternoons these days! She naps after lunch for an hr/1hr30.

It was 9pm and he was sleeping through to 4.30 but I started bringing it forward to 8.30 and he's now waking at midnight and wants to get up for the day at 3am! I'm going to persist for another two weeks and then reassess.

It's a big jump to go from 10 down to 7. I'd do it gradually, half hour at a time. However mine have never been early sleepers and although I tried it I found it futile to try and enforce early bed times. Just meant I was spending 2 hours on bed time and getting stressed rather than just letting them stay up an hour and a half and as they were then actually tired they go to sleep no problem, everyone was happier.

My 2 yo goes down approx 6.30, it’s really early but he sleeps 12 hours and he doesn’t have a nap. If he ever does nap he won’t sleep until about 9pm so the no nap option definitely works for us.

Drop the nap!

If bedtime is taking hours you don’t need to sleep train him, you need to take away the daytime sleep. 2 is a very normal age for children to stop napping.

Honestly, I’ve been in the same situation as you and we tortured ourselves by keeping daytime sleep going. The moment it was gone bedtime was 6.30-45.

At 2 my DS had a nap 12-2pm then asleep about 7.30/8pm.

My 18 month old is asleep by 7pm. He has a 1hr nap around 11am but regardless of what time he goes down, I don't let him nap beyond 1pm.

My 2 and a half year old goes down around 6.30. She only really naps in the day if we’ve had a busy morning, like swimming, and then she’ll sleep about two hours. I wake her up at 7.30 on nursery days and she’ll wake herself around 8/8.30 when we’re off.

My 2 year old is usually in bed by 6, asleep by 6:30 and up around 7:30. He was an early nap dropper and has a similar routine to my 4 year old:)

Motherofmonsters · 06/01/2020 08:28

My DS is 2.5 we start the bed routine at 6 and is usually asleep by 7. He doesn't have a nap though.
Last night we started it at 5.30 as he wanted to have his bath early.

Thanks everyone .
I've tried starting the bedtime a bit later it's been a bit more successful - taking less time but still going to sleep about 8:30.
