Earlier waking and daytime sleep for 11 month old

My nearly 11 month old daughter was sleeping from 7.30-8pm until 6.30-7am until the past week when she has started waking anytime from 5.30 (I know it's not as early as some people have to deal with, but it's really hard to get used to again after getting used to at least 6.30!)

Most days she was having a nap at 10 and I would usually wake her after 40 minutes to an hour and then she'd nap again for an hour and a half-ish from about 2-2.30.

It all seemed to go wrong when we had to miss out her morning nap last weekend which put her whole day out and since then even though we've tried to go back to the same pattern of naps, she's been waking earlier.

Now the past couple of days she's started to resist daytime naps. We've had really busy days from lunchtime onwards and knew that she wouldn't get a lot of sleep in the afternoon so let her sleep more in the morning. This used to be okay and she would just have a short nap in the afternoon, but the past couple of days, she has slept very little (if at all!) in the afternoon and is really grumpy and practically passes out at bedtime!

I tried to put her down at 10 this morning and she kept on crawling round her cot and pulling herself up to standing for about half an hour before finally giving in and going to sleep.

Do you think I should be pushing back her first nap? Do you think she is trying to move to one nap a day? Any suggestions to make this as painless as possible?

I forgot to say, last week she was going down okay at 10 for her nap, I'd wake her up after 45 minutes-ish. She would then go down okay for her nap about 2-2.30, but would wake up absolutely screaming. It seemed that she didn't really want to wake up, but I couldn't get her to go back to sleep.

I remember you from before cruisemum, when my dd was waking at 5. What's your little one up to now?

liloosmum - his routine has changed (thank God!). He now goes to bed at 8pm and wakes anywhere between 6:30am and 7:30am. It is not consistent but he seems to do a few days at a fixed time and then change . I am happy with that though. He naps twice a day for a total of 2.5hrs. You? Still up with the lark ?

I reakon her sleep pattern might be changing TBH. My DD doing the same sort of thing at the moment, nap structure all over the place. Have realised that I need to wait until she is really really tired before trying a nap, else it ends as you say, with pulling up for ages before sleep kicks in. Even then she wakes after 30 mins - I was really enjoying the 90 minute naps a fortnight ago!

Hope they are moving to one lunchtime nap - it will make my life and hers so much easier once all the groups and classes start again, as they are all timed at around 10am which is morning nap time - will be lovely if DD is napping once only later in the day!

I'm really confused now. She went to sleep after about half an hour yesterday morning and slept for an hour and a half. Yesterday afternoon I put her down for a nap about 3 without too much trouble and then had to wake her up after 1 hour 20 minutes! She went to bed about half 7 last night without any problems and then woke up at 6 this morning.

What has really confused me is that she chatted away quite happily for about 15/20 minutes and then it all went quiet for about half an hour. We think she must have gone back to sleep! She has never done anything like that before.
