Awake time before first nap

Good morning!

So we have just woken up from night sleep and playing peacefully in in our bedroom. But quite soon our first nap battle is going to start.

I don't know what happened but my almost 6 mo dd started having troubles with her morning nap. Her first awake time has always been pretty short ~ 1 h. Then she began to protest it and we lengthened it to 1 h 15 min. Everything was perfect until recently. Now she protests every time and would not go down any sooner than 2 h after waking up. But after 2 h she is too tired and is only capable of catnapping. So the whole day schedule is screwed.

How long do your babies of similar age stay awake in the morning?

I always do first nap after 2hrs (baby is now 8 months). It's a fine balance between not tired enough and overtired!

I'm following little ones and it says 2 1/4-2 1/2 hrs for 4-6m old awake times - it also says that there might be a bit of catnapping/disruption for a couple of days while the awake time changes until it resettles! And to only move them 5-10mins at a time per day so it's a gentle change and less likely to disrupt

It's so hard isn't it, it's a constant change with mine.. I think just going with your gut will help! Thanks

All my boy did until he was 7 months old was cat nap. He’s 9 months now and generally has 2 one hour naps if we are in the house. Shorter if we’re out and about. And then he’ll probably need a third nap. At 6 months he was having 4 30-minute naps every 2 hours.
Now First awake time is between 2 and 2.5 hours and after that it’s about 2.5 to 3 hours.
At 6/7/8 months the daytime routine changed all the time so we just had to be more flexible.
