My baby has been a fantastic sleeper and has gone 12hrs from around 8weeks waking at 6/6:30 having a bottle then going back to sleep for an hour. he is now 4.5month and is waking up at 5 regardless of what time he goes down, having a bottle and staying awake....Is this normal? Will it go back to how it was before? Any tips? I know in the grand scheme it isn’t that early but just curious to know others opinions

4 month sleep regression can be awful, mine went from waking 4/5 times randomly every night for a month to sleeping like a rock until 7am again last week (he's nearly 6 months now)

I made a post about the 4 month sleep regression the other day without realising I think we're actually going through it now. My baby has been sleeping really well, and past week she's woken twice a night and takes 15 mins at a time to settle with dummy. If this is it I'll take it, I know it can be a lot worse

It’s a weird one isn’t it and can always be worse I guess, just the fact you get used to a “pattern” and it all goes out the window! How long do they usually last - anyone know 😣

Ahhhh the 4 month sleep regression! What a killer that was.

My only tip is to decide on ‘times’ you feel are acceptable and then stick to them. For example, we decided with DS that it was not acceptable to wake earlier than 6:30am. Any wakings prior to 6:30am (even 6:29am) were treated as night wakenings.... lights of, no talking etc. Would occasionally give a bottle of milk. Even if this meant sitting in the dark silently whilst he babbled away for 30 mins.

Coincidentally, I was the only one out of 6 friends who never had an issue (bar the odd morning) of severely early morning waking. Who knows why, but I personally do think it’s because I never ‘allowed’ my child to wake up early

As for how long the regression lasted, we found a good 4-5 weeks. DS went from sleeping 12 hours solid to waking every 1.5 hours for simply a cuddle.

If he is not crying just fed him and change him, put him back in the cot and sit in bed a read your book. Let him know it's not playtime. If he cries put him in with you. But don't play with him. Just read or try to go back to sleep. X

My 4 year old still gets up at 5am every morning. No matter what we have tried. Some kids are just early risers.

Thank you everyone, really helpful!
