Is there anyone out there who can offer me some hope that this will get better. My youngest ds is just 8 weeks old. I have never found the newborn stage easy but I am getting very little sleep partly due to my ds excessive farting, which he suffers from day and night sometimes fairly constantly. I feel miserable because I am in a constant state of wondering if I am doing the right thing. I am bf and sometimes he will go 4 hours other times he seems to want to feed constantly. Sometimes he latches on well other times he pulls away crying. Will this get better on its own or am I just crap at getting my babies into a happy settled routine?

charliemama,

I am in a similar position, also with 8 week old ds. We are trying infacol, dentinox and gripe water to help with wind, but he is still very trumpy and can be quite upset when he needs a big poo.

Sometimes putting him on his side to sleep, with rolled up blankets to stop him rolling seems to help.

Hope someone will offer more advice soon.

I am also not a fan of the first 3 months, but remember everything got easier with DD by 4 months, so halfway there already!

Cranial Ostepath helps . . .MY DD has colic and trumps like a trouper before the CO it was a lot worse we still use Denitox (She spits infacol out) and it all helps.... She also spits out grip water but if you put 30ml of grip water with 150ML of cooled boiled water and give in between feeds. (30ml is the max allowed in 24hr period - my DD never has 180ml of this mix in a 24hr period) In the heat it hydrates her and if her tummy is tight i offer this and she like it!!

Have you looked at what you are eating? I know some people recommend cutting down on dairy, avoiding caffeine and onions/garlic. Also try drinking camomile tea, three cups/day, it will calm both you and baby and help his wind.

My Sister gave her 2 DS cold camomile tea but you would need to check what age this can be given. Personally as I exc BF I gave nothing else except infacol.
Baby massage helped as I learnt to massage her tummy in the correct way.

You are nearly at 12 weeks where their intestines are more developed and can cope with the milk better.

As you are bf you can get the camomile tea benefits by drinking it yourself. Also buy baby massage oil with camomile in (I think Neals Yard do one) as that will help too.

Ohh if BF avoid brocolli and other "windy" veges....

I never quite worked out what foods I ate upset DS, but I know chocolate and fruit juice are also on the suspect list, as well as those already mentioned.

does he feed off both boobs or just one at one sitting? if both is he getting enough from each to get to the hind milk? I know too much fore milk can cause wind. My DS is 6mo now and I still think there might be some things I eat that don't agree with him, but it's so hard to tell and you could end up not eating anything good for you! Letting him have a kick on his change mat without nappy helps DS, as does cycling his legs in the air for him, lots of farts guaranteed. Also, try holding him in a sitting position, as if training for potty, this generally helps (lady in chemist told me that one and it has helped DS).

apologies if these are all obvious and you've tried them.
good luck

Thanks for all the advice. I do try and watch what I eat as I am bf with the very occasional bottle of aptimal. My dd was also very wind and cried for 12-14 weeks so I have tried most of the advice for a windy/colickly baby. I will try the gripe water in water tip and see if that helps.
