Dear All,
Dd 18 months usually has a 90 minute sleep at midday, yesterday for some unknown reason she just wouldn't sleep...no radical change in routine...stayed up till 7pm...today she slept again...I thought naps lasted till they were at least 2!! Any thoughts?

I 'thinkl' dd's stopped when she was around 2.
I dod notice at first with my daughter that, if she didn't have a nap, she was worse at bedtime (over-tired), so i encouraged her for a bit until she really didn't seem to need it anymore.
There's SO much to do when you're 18 months old

My ds is 2.7 & still has a daytime nap, anything up to 2 hours. I'm encouraging it for as long as possible .

Mine both stopped around 2-2.5 usually around the time they start playgroup!

CountessDracula · 29/09/2004 10:22

my dd is just 2 and she is starting to nap intermittently, eg this weekend she didn't have any naps at all. I still put her down for them but she doesn't always go to sleep.

i think they should be compulsary until they leave home!

Ds is 2.5 and has a siesta most days. He's had phases of not wanting to go to sleep but I always offer it with some gentle encouragement!

Ds still has a nap at a weekend.He's 4.5.

DD is 3.7 and still needs a nap most days. On days when she doesn't get her nap, she is quite cranky in the late afternoon. Lately, I've made a concerted effort to do things with her that will tire her physically so that she can get the sleep she needs....but often resists. On days that she doesn't nap, we bring bedtime forward by about an hour if possible. Better for all concerned....

my oldest is 3.5 and only naps if we put him in the car with a bottle of milk and all the windows done up and drive for at least 20 minutes.

Sari · 29/09/2004 11:26

Ds1 often has a nap and he's 4.4. The days he doesn't because he's at nursery he is always exhausted by early evening.

lulupop · 29/09/2004 15:23

DS cut out his lunchtime nap at 20 months. He'd want to sleep around 4pm but then I could never get him to bed before midnight!

We had about 5 months where he really did need the sleep but wouldn't have it in his cot, so I'd structure my day around going somewhere in the car around lunchtime so he'd sleep. Spent many happy hours listening to car radio in Waitrose car park

Around 2 he just didn't need it any more and now never naps at all (he's 2.9months)

lolliepops · 29/09/2004 15:39

my dd is 18mts too and some days i pich her up from nursary and they say she refused to go to sleep. i dont know how she last as when she is at home with me she has a morning nap and a nap after lunch! admittedley i do take her in the car or buggie or there is no way she would sleep in her cot through the day, she always used to but now just refuses. i think it is definatly the age my dd doesnt have time to sleep and there are much better things to do then eat! she will learn these are my favourite pass times

prefernot · 29/09/2004 21:05

Dd is almost 2 and really needs a daytime nap though for the last few months has been more resistant to having it in her cot where before she slept readily and well. When this started happening a lot of people said to me she was probably ready to drop her nap but I think they were wrong as if I took her out in the pram etc. she'd sleep very quickly so I've persevered with it and she sleeps 1-2 hours still in her cot, though it does sometimes take a while to get her off these days. My mum says my brother and I had a nap right up til 3.5 and swears it did us loads of good.

TwoToo · 30/09/2004 02:18

DS is 2.11 and I insist he takes a nap in the day with DD 1.6, usually they'll resist but I know they need it (well, I definitely do) because there's peace for atleast 1 - 3 hours. They share a room and lately they'll only sleep about 9 to 10 hours at night. DS knows his bedtime routine like the back of his hand, but will really try and convince me something's wrong and he can't sleep, thus disturbing DD wanting to sleep earlier. Hmmm, maybe I should start my own thread .

OzJo · 30/09/2004 03:26

Cheers everyone, she has slept again today, hope she continues to nap for as long as possible,I need my lunchtime internet fix !!!
