5 week old suddenly refusing to sleep on back

This is my first post. Currently breast feeding my 5 week old DS and over the last few days he’s refusing to settle on his back gurgling, making choking noises, throwing his arms around and full on screaming fits. He settles well on his stomach during the day but I’m so scared about letting him do so at night. He sleeps in the snuzpod next to me. I’ve been so tired the last few days I’ve found myself falling asleep with him on my chest just to calm him which doesn’t make me feel great either as am worried about SIDS. I also suffer from OCD and all this is pushing me to my limits as I’m not in control of the situation. Any help/advice appreciated.

He might be suffering from reflux, OP, and is upset at stomach contents choking him in that position. Have you tried settling him on his left side, so that his stomach is “downhill” from his gullet and reflux is less likely?
My own two DC always slept on their sides as babies.

Also try raising the head end of his cf it slightly to help with digest ion. This sounds like reflux.

We ended up with a front sleeping baby (now 17 weeks). As with you, we had the same experience every time he was on his back and he ended up on top of one of us every night. This wasn't sustainable as then we were getting no sleep.

We made sure we followed all the other SIDS guidelines with the exception that he slept in his front. He in his own cot with a good mattress, we use sleeping bags so don't worry about blankets, he's in our room next to our bed, there's nothing else in the cot, we're non-smokers, room is 18 degrees, and he's breastfed.

Thank you. Forgive my naivety but what is OP? How do you settle them on there side do you prop them on there side in some way. DS is one strong feisty baby and strong. We did elevate the snuz pod last night but it didn’t make much of a difference. Starting to get severe anxiety about going to bed and getting some rest.

OP means original poster (or something along those lines!)

It might be worth going to the GP as they may be able to give baby gaviscon if it is reflux.

scratchbass the risk factors are the same as yours. My partner works shifts and is up at 4:30am so hoping and praying for a better night

I always keep my DS upright on me for at least 20mins after a feed which helps with reflux sounding noises he makes.
