DD is 8 months old but seems genuinely hungry and is waking for 2-3 feeds per night. BUT perhaps she isn't ?!?!

ds one weaned himself at 6 months. Still waiting for ds 2, hes 6 months next week so am hoping! But I know I will be disappointed!

MaeWest · 22/08/2007 20:46

My DS is just coming up to 13 months and we are attempting to night wean him at the mo. I say attempting as I feed him if he gets too upset, but not that often now. DH goes instead of me and offers cup of water and a cuddle. DS wakes on the dot of 5am and I do feed him then as he then goes back to sleep for an hour or two (and so do I!)

MaeWest · 22/08/2007 20:47

I do think they have to be ready for it tho, up until a month or so ago, DS screamed blue murder if I sent DH in, whereas now he is comforted by him.

Ah now that's interesting to hear about self-weaning. That is REALLY what I would prefer rather than night fights etc. I was wondering whether she would be feeding this regularly until she was 2-3 years old unless I sorted it out now. Very reassuring to hear ' not necessarily'

7 months. when he was on three good meals a day as well as his milk. only then was i confident that he wasn't hungry and so must have been waking out of habit. was preparing to try cc but the night i threatened to he didn't wake, and that was him.

keeping fingers crossed for almost 6mo dd who has been a rubbish sleeper from birth and still gets me up several times a night...

FrayedKnot · 22/08/2007 20:56

Ds pretty much stopped himslef by 13 months, but had to gently wean him off the 5.30am feed to a more godly hour. of course he then stopped having a morning feed at all!

Had a brief reintroduction at 14 months when he was ill, then finally stopped for good.

At 8 months I was still feeding 1-3 times a night. Not loving it, tbh, but just accepting it.

babyblue2 · 22/08/2007 20:58

DD1 was 5 months
DD2 self weaned at 3 months.

BrownSuga · 22/08/2007 20:58

at 11 weeks, DS hasn't needed a night feed
(ff) for 2 weeks now. we replaced it with cooled boiled water and a cuddle for about a week, then he started sleeping thru (AND HE's GROWING FINE)

whomovedmychocolate · 22/08/2007 20:59

DD stopped taking night feeds at 9 months. But she does wake up and want feeding immediately in the morning.

tassisssss · 22/08/2007 21:00

mine both did 7pm to 7am from about 8 months...fed 1/2 times in the night until then

UCM · 22/08/2007 21:01

I woke DD for a feed around 11pm until about 2 months back, she is 7 months now. She wakes around 6am for a feed and goes to bed at around 7/8pm.

JodieG1 · 22/08/2007 21:02

Ds2 7 months, 4-5 times a night. Think ds1 was the same and dd every few hours. Dd and ds1 sleep through now though so hey ho, lol. Happens sooner or later

ChasingSquirrels · 22/08/2007 21:05

between about 13 and 15mo

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 22/08/2007 22:34

oooh now we've just had 3 episodes of waking in the past 1.5 hours and it transpired that she just wanted to be held by me (not DH) and to feel confident that I was there. She has now settled. I wonder if it's a form of separation anxiety that's making her wake full at the end of sleep cycles or something. Does this sound reasonable or daft??

15 months. She dropped all other night feeds by herself (and at one point was on average 6), i did help her along a little when she was still having 3 at 10 months by trying to settle her in other ways before feeding her and she has been having just one since then. Dropped it last week, after trying several times to reduce milk with poor results and after a week of watering down milk she was ready to drop it. I think they do have to be ready though.
She doesnt have the feed anymore but is still not sleeping through btw

Lovage · 24/08/2007 15:03

12 1/2 months. Last week! Although I'm still doing a dream feed at 10.30 when I go to bed. Not feeling brave enough to mess with that yet, but might in a month or so.

choolie · 24/08/2007 15:09

ooh, this thread has given me hope, thanks! DS 6mo still 3 night wakings, but starting to think he's not so interested in feeds, more wondering why he's awake, so hopefully he's getting ready to at least drop one.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 24/08/2007 15:22

hi,
My DD is 6 month, only ever really woke up once between 3 and 4am.Then it moved to between 4 and 5am she started sleeping 7pm till 7am at around 5 month. I think she was waking up out of habbit for a few weeks before she actually slept through though. A friend suggested offering some boiled water when she woke, but tbh I felt guilty that she may be genuinly hungry. Once solids were established she seemed much more content. However I still top her up with a dream feed between 10.30 and 11pm.
I find if I bf for this feed she doesnt feed properly and just keeps falling to sleep deeply, then has sometimes woke around 2.30 or 5.30 and appears to be hungry. If I FF she sleeps straight through. Quite happy to continue with this dream feed as long as she needs.sorry to waffle

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 24/08/2007 15:23

However I do feel more exhausted since she been sleeping through. I know I shouldnt complain though.
