Have you tried Medised instead of calpol over night?

lilsmum · 28/09/2004 10:03

Try baby Nurofen - because its an anti-inflammatory it's excellent for teething. And if you reall need to you can use it alongside Calpol or Medised (but not both) - Calpol, then 2 hrs later Nurofen, then 2 hours later Calpol etc - but don't give more than the recommended dose in 24 hours. So you can't give one every 2 hours for a whole 24 hours if you see what I mean.

Lilsmum, I really feel for you having gone through two years of teething. Someone said that you never die from lack of sleep - but sometimes it felt close. All things are possible with sleep.

I back up Cadbury - Medised is great - it contains an anti-histamine so should help with both the cold and the sleep. My DD lived on this and Nurofen and although I was still up most nights, it helped. Wobblyknicks is right about the dosing, but I must admit I gave them both together most of the time as an all or nothing attempt to get her back to sleep. HTH

Another vote for Medised. Used it recently with my 9mo when he was teething (all 4 top teeth at the same time!) and had a runny nose and lots of nighttime coughing. Worked like a dream - the antihistamines clear up the runny nose and mucus and stuff, soothes the throat and helps with sleeping. As others have said, don't use it with Calpol as it already has paracetamol in it. HTH and Good luck

Lol lilsmum - just like passing on info that some other kind MN'ers told me in the first place. IME gp's never tell you the useful stuff - thats why I love MN - you get the 'secrets' that make all the difference!!!

pooka · 30/09/2004 20:24

I also heard about Medised from mumsnet, and boy has it been useful! Just one thing I've noticed, though, is that dd sometimes has unusual nappies the following day, very runny, if that's not too much information. She's not bothered though, and we both get a great night's sleep!
