Sorry if this is a silly question!
Should my 2 month old wear a vest under her sleep suit at night? The house is around 18/19 degrees and when I put her in her basket sometimes uses a cellular blanket but I feel like I'm under dressing her! She always feels warm/good temperature when I check her. I know its better cooler than too warm..
I regularly take her temperature and she's always between 36.4-36.8 but I don't want to do the wrong thing!

Check how warm she feels by touching the back of her neck or her back. Yes I would put a vest on her.

dementedpixie · 03/12/2019 20:21

Depends what bedding you use alongside the sleepsuit

chickenstrippers · 03/12/2019 20:23

If you don't run your heating all night then yes I would. I didn't because our room is the third floor and boiling despite heating going off at 10.30pm. Regularly showing temps of 26.

Not silly! There is such confusing advice!

I used to put a vest under a sleep suit and also a sleeping bag. She started waking up less frequently then, figured she was cold. Depends where / how she sleeps though, and whether there are other sources of warmth (eg co sleeping/ blankets), just try different layers and gauge her comfort level.

Congrats on the lil one x

She always feels warm without the vest - what temperatures should I not use a vest and just a sleep suit?

I use a cellular blanket or a grosnug (light) but I just really don't want her over heating! But want to do the right thing!

I would put a vest on under yes, if you’re heating is on all night I think you’ll do fine without the blanket, if it’s off though definitely a blanket as well for the winter.

dementedpixie · 03/12/2019 20:49

What is the lowest temperature overnight? Clothing and bedding depends on room temperature

Evalon19 · 03/12/2019 20:54

It always stays around 18/19

Well the good news is 18/19 degrees is an ideal temperature. I would definitely pop a vest on under her sleepsuit (long sleeved). Try to avoid using a blanket (even cellular) due to the risk if SIDS. She should probably be in a 1 tog bag at that temperature

Lotus90 · 03/12/2019 21:06

P.S drop the long sleeved vest for short sleeved one if the temp creeps up to 20/21. Any warmer than that and go without a vest at all. Hope that answers your questions

dementedpixie · 03/12/2019 21:07

Blankets are fine if you have the baby feet to the foot of the bed and with the blanket tucked in under the arm pits. Sleeping bags are an alternative too

dementedpixie · 03/12/2019 21:09

Lullabye trust info about bedding:

Firmly tucked in sheets and blankets (not above shoulder height) or a baby sleep bag are safe for a baby to sleep in. Be sure toremove any soft toys from the cotbefore each sleep period.

Sleep your baby in the feet-to-foot position and avoid using soft or bulky bedding such as quilts, pillows and duvets.

This gives an idea about bedding at different temperatures

Vest, long sleeved sleepsuit and gro-bag.
