dd is 2.3 I've been thinking of moving her into a junior bed (it has little wooden bed guards at the top) but only thing stopping me is the fact that due to it being a novelty that she can now get out when she wants to. surely she wont stay in bed? how were your lo's when they moved from cot to bed? did you have to train them to stay there?

any advice appreciated, as I have been a bit hasty and in fact ordered the bed it due to come on tuesday. Now i'm doubting whther to put it up or not.

We moved DS1 into a toddler bed at 23mths when I was pregnant with DS2. He has really taken to it well and we haven't had any problems. He does get out of bed to get books off his bookshelf to read but he always tucks himself back in under the covers afterwards (very sweet)

We did put a safety gate in the bedroom doorway just to make sure he didn't escape and fall down the stairs or go and play in the bathroom or something

We moved dd (aged 2 and 3 mths) to a cotbed a week ago...and wow, what a difference!!

She's never slept throught he night..used to stand up in her cot and call during the night to be brought into bed with us - we'd put her in a 2.5 tog grobag (complete with longsleeved vest and sleepsuit). She never managed to climb out of the cot but we have been shattered cause two years is a long time.

A week ago, we changed her cot to the cotbed position, bought her a duvet...and she has slept thru every bloody night!! Now I think she was probably cold, though she never felt it when she came in with us in the middle of the night. What different people we are now! (lol that this could have been us two years ago!). She's never once got out of her bed either and waits until we come in at morningtime before she gets up. In fact, we've had to wake her several times cause she was lying in too long!

My youngest is also 2.3 montsh and I've resisited the transition after being traumatised by teh experience of my eldest. In a bed at 2, got out every night oo, for months and months. Would be up there for hours having to stay in her room until she fell asleep in teh end. A stairgate at the top of teh stairs caused even more trauma!

My eldest is, however, quite highly strung [don't let me scare you emoticon]

We changed ds2's cotbed last month (he is 2.2) and he has fallen out occasionally, although it is only a small drop and he wasn't bothered (was still asleep more often than not). I have always used a stairgate over the door when my children were 2-3ish as I worry about them going downstairs in the middle of the night but it also helps with the not getting out as there is nowhere for them to go. Since his new bed ds2 has been fine generally with his sleep and had even had his daytime nap in there. ds1 and dd were much the same too so I guess I have been lucky.

My daughter moved at 2 ish with no problems at all.

My son moved at 21 months (because we went on holiday and the promised cot didn't turn up but he managed brilliantly in a single bed) So, we carrried on with it at home.

He did try gettingup in the night to find us so my husband and I spent a week taking it in turns to sleep on a matress outside his door for INSTANT return. A week was all it took and now at 2.5 heonly gets out of bed to use his potty and straight back in (I assume) without disturbing us.

My dd is two and a half has been in a bed for over a year. Now she is a bright little thing but would you believe it has only just realised that she can get out of it on her own! She only does it first thing in the morning though. Better not be too smug as 6 month old ds has a mischevious glint in his eye!
