When did your toddler drop their naps?

My DD (26 months) has very recently been dropping her usual nap 11.30-1.30ish. She now tells me "no nap / no sleep" when I mention them. The thing is I can tell she's knackered! She hasn't been napping at nursery either and gets in absolutely exhausted and is asleep on the sofa the minute she sits down. I still definitely think she needs a nap during the day.

I've just put her down and she's howling blue murder in her bedroom.

Is this genuinely time to drop them or should I persevere?

On a side note - I'm 7 months pregnant with no2 (which she is aware of) and she's had a two week bout of illness - tonsillitis and now a horrible cold.

We had a def nap fighting stay around 2yrs, I pushed through it but had to resort to a daily drive and then transfer to cot. Nap was fully dropped by 2.5 and life actually became a lot easier as we could go out for the whole day and bedtimes lasted about 3 mins as he was so knackered!

2yrs 6 months and 2yrs 3 months. We spent about 3/4 months forcing naps after this with trips in the car/ pushchair as they still definitely needed it but after a while it became easier as a PP said.

I have friends with 4yr olds that still nap. Not sure what I did wrong Confused

Around 2 years for DD2 but she didn’t drop it totally. She would still have a nap every other day until nearer 3 I think depending what we had got up to. It’s so frustrating when you know they (and you!) need a bit of piece! I used to play it by ear and after lunch, I’d do a quiet activity like read a story together and if she seemed calm and drowsy I’d go for the nap, if it looked like a no go, I didn’t push it!

Well just checked on her and she's fast asleep smug face

I'll see how she goes with the naps. If she drops them some days and has them others, that's OK with me. I just do not want her falling asleep at 5pm and waking up at 5am Grin

13 months little madam (she's in her 40s now and loves her sleep, often napping in the afternoon at weekends)

I phased out naps for my d's when he was around 4.5 so that he'd be used to it for school! Dd dropped her daily nap at the same time ish so she was around 3 but would still nap 2 or 3 times a week, usually on days when ds was at pre school. Luck of the draw, I don't think 2 is unusual.

My little boy is 19 months and has only had 4 naps in the last 2 weeks so they're quickly disappearing! He sleeps well at night though thankfully!

Both mine were 18 months. They might have had the odd one after that - dropping off if we were in the car occasionally etc, but nothing regular at all. I tried to have a quiet time after lunch - half an hour if books etc, in the hope that they might sleep but didn't work!

Have you tried making the nap a bit later and/or a bit shorter? I seem to recall that DD moved to a slightly later nap for a couple of months then we had a period around 2.5 where she would nap one day then skip the next day but go to bed much earlier. Then we just dropped nap completely but she had to go to bed by 6 pm every night for a while - and would sleep straight through until about 7.
