So my 3 month old has been waking every hour right through the night for about 3 weeks. Fairly certain it was his need to feed to sleep. As he's too young to sleep train we decided to try baby whisperers 'shush, pat' technique to get him to self settle. Have to say I was fairly sceptical but it worked! Took 15 mins first night. Second night 5. Tonight about 2.
Here's the problem. You hold the baby on their side while shushing and patting their bottom, eventually slowing down and stopping as they drift off to sleep.
We all know to reduce sids risk babies are meant to sleep on their backs so I was waiting until he was sound asleep (she says wait 20 mins before leaving the room) and then gently turning him. However he wakes up very soon after self settling and I think this might be the reason as hes not where he fell asleep.
Since introducing him to this side position he seems to love it. I have tried patting his tummy instead but he was almost trying to get on to his side. He seems to love being very close to the edge of his crib ( it has a mesh side but is pushed up against my bed so no air flow).
How did other people who did this technique tackle this or did they just let their baby sleep on side? Anyone got a way to get them to settle on their back?
I'm not prepared to do side sleeping as I know its riskier and hes only 3 months. Any solutions?
I am so sleep deprived that this weekend I didnt feel safe to drive my older one to his clubs. My longest stretch of sleep was 50mins and this 'phase' is not improving. I am also feeling like I'm not that safe around the baby and part of me wonders if him side sleeping is safer than me nodding off while feeding him in the night?
