we moved our ds into his cotbed really early (5 weeks) as he's really big and kept banging his arms in the moses basket and waking himeslef up.

We rolled up blankets and put them along the sides of the cotbed (well just along the bits that he could see out of). Not sure if that's what you mean by 'womb' like but it seemed to help him settle.

How old is your little one? Up to about 4 months we swaddled our dd and it worked like magic - no more flailing around and she settled and slept after weeks of only sleeping if held. Used a cot bumper as well, and put a rolled up blanket sort of bent round behind her head IYSWIM. When she was older and getting mobile she had reflux and she actually slept propped up on a quite firm breast feeding pillow, which also seemed quite nest like for her.

Oh - too big for swaddle then!! Dd is 15 months - she needs it dark in her room, and we've tied a muslin across the side of her cot to block the view! and she has a CD that she has always had of wave noises (bought from a new age shop in cornwall about 15 years ago!!) to fall asleep to. And a sleeping bag. What about one of those baby play mats that they have when tiny - we've got one that's fleecy with cushion bits round the edge??

Try rolled up towels under the sheet to restrict his space a bit.

I wouldn't use a cot bumper inside the bars as they can bury their face in it but on the outside of the bars to block view and make more cosy.

Flannelette sheets are nice to snuggle on.

If you use a cushion or pillow i would put it under the sheet so he can't burrow under it and get overheated.

I use a grobag. It gives the feeling of cosiness without restricting Dd@s movement (she travels in her sleep!! I still have her cot book attached to the side of the cot. Sometimes she touches the mirror and animals babbles a bit and goes back off. If we're away and I forget to take one she wakes me up cos she's woken up and is bored. I also have a small light sensitive nightlight on.
