Advice on Jo Frost's Controlled Timed Crying Technique (CTCT)

Hi! We're starting the Controlled Timed Crying Technique (CTCT) this week. DS is 7 months old and has never slept through the night, but it's getting progressively worse - don't think teething has helped :-(

I had a couple of questions if anyone has tried this technique?

  1. What do you do if they have a dummy? Does the dummy get put back in or not when you go in for your checks?

  2. What do you do if baby is moaning rather than crying? Do you still do the calming stuff when you pop in for your checks?

Thanks so much!

Is it a similar method to Ferber? Go back in at timed intervals, which get increasingly longer? Stay for a couple of minutes to reassure and then leave again?

I've got the Ferber book (planning to start soon) and I think he would advise doing away with the dummy at the same time, although you may not want to, I appreciate (I'd be over the moon if my baby would accept a bloody dummy! Grin).

Ferber suggests that if baby crying is winding down (e.g. moaning rather than crying) then it's best to delay the next check a bit as baby may be settling themselves, and to go in at that point would potentially delay the process.

Thanks @Sleeplesssleepseeker - it's so much to get your head around and I just want to get it right. Finally started tonight! Been putting it off for so long....
