Hiya, my daughter is 3 months old and I need some help with what she should wear to bed.
Her room is about 20 degrees when she goes to sleep, and it drops to about 17 overnight.

I have followed the guidelines and she wears a long sleeved vest, a fleecy sleepsuit and a sleeveless 1 tog bag.
She wakes up happy for a feed during the night but her hands are freezing. Her body feels quite warm though. She likes her hands uncovered so she can self soothe.
On the one hand I do worry about her overheating but on the other hand I worry that she's cold and I don't realise.
Do you think I should maybe upgrade to a 2 tog bag or even one with sleeves?
Thanks x

Hands aren't a good indicator of body temperature and they tend to be cooler than the rest of the body, especially in little ones. More reliable to test by putting your hand on their back or chest.

Could have written this post myself. I have just fed my 10wo DS.

I was always told to never go by hands or feet as PP said but rather the back or chest.

My baby is warm in these areas..

He is wearing a long sleeve bodysuit, a normal cotton sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog sleep bag.

I literally wrote this myself a few nights ago! Our dilemma was room was between 19-16.5 on a cold night. Following guidelines she only wore a sleepsuit and 2.5 tog! Worrying she was waking up/stirring more due to coldness I also put her in a short sleeve vest - since then a better sleeper (except tonight 🙈)!

However like the above poster says don't go by their hands - if she self soothes that will make her hands colder to.

You can get those long sleeve gro bag if you feel that may help?

I'm struggling to picture the fleecy sleepsuit. When between 16 and 20 degrees, mine wore a vest, long sleeve baby gro and 2.5 tog sleeping bag.

Feel chest or back - you want toasty, not hot to touch. They'll wake if too cold so don't worry too much about being chilly so much. If too hot, they'll not wake is the issue.

Thanks everyone. That's really helped. It appears I'm on the right track.
I think I may either add another vest or try a 2 tog bag. The fleecy sleepsuit is just a warmer baby grow.

I agree that it's best for them to be too cold than hot
