Anyone Awake

Hi my ds has actually just gone back to sleep at 4.20am having been awake since 2.45am. He has started doing this for tha past two weeks at least five nights a week. I have tried feeding him, picking him up, puting him in bed with me as well as leaving him alone. None of these makes any difference he still crys and moans on and off for an hour and half. Midwife suggested stomach craps like colic but dr said sleep prob. I don't know because I follow all the advice, bedtime routine, putting him in bed awake and leaving him to settle himself all of which he does brilliantly. He also has two naps a day totally two and half hours and the same time each day when he also goes to sleep on his own. The trouble is by the time he does go back to sleep I am totally awake and by the time I go to sleep he gets up for the morning! Any guesses or suggestions gratefully received. ds is eight months goes to bed at 7.30pm and wakes for the morning at 7.30am. Ideal if not for the night waking!

I am up, sorry you are not getting much sleep

Wow, I thought it was a little baby for most of the post. Do you think he's teething? Colin's been a really good sleeper since about 6 mo, but I can always tell when teeth are coming because he wakes up at night. He just doesn't stay awake that long. I know what you mean about being wide awake after they've been up so long. Sorry to hear that.

I'm here too. Actually I'd be a lazy cow if I was asleep now. I am sure I had the same problem with my DS at that stage and I just kept plugging away at the routine and trying to get him back to sleep as soon as poss. I would say that it is more likely to be teething rather than colic at that age. I was in germany at the time and they have these homeopathic camomile little balls that you put on their tounge to help them settle. What about a drop of lavender on his grobag? Good Luck.

Thanks, will try lavender but not convinced he is teething, wouldn't he also be grumpy in the day? He only has bottom two teeth and top two are very lumpy but not yet through so I have little experience of such things.

Colin tends to be mostly grumpy at night. I think he is too busy during the day to notice. It always seems to be worse when the teeth aren't quite through, and at that really swollen stage. He woke up twice the several nights ago, and today I discovered three new teeth.

Have you got some gel to rub on his gums? Otherwise you could try calpol I guess - I wouldn't give the full recommended dose initially and see how it goes.

You could try camolmile salts or ashton and parsons both are homepathic camomile for teething
