What to dress baby for bed??

Ok so I'm familiar with the guidelines etc on what to dress baby for bed in during certain temperatures.
However I know all babies are different too...
So tonight it's 18.3 in our bedroom. DD2 is 4 months and still shares a room with myself (Dad is sleeping in the spare room).
I usually dress her in a 2.5 tog and sleep suit, the temperature can drop down to the low 17 and reach 19 recently.
Curiously what are you dressing your LO's in? Tonight I've put her in a sleep suit, short sleeve body suit and a 2.5 tog. Kind of hoping this may stop the couple of wake ups in the night too (she doesn't need feeding/just wakes up and babbles/squirms).

My room drops to about 15 some nights now so Iv got her in short sleeved vest, sleepsuit, 2.5tog gro bag with a blanket on top.

It’s a lot of trial and error.
I religiously followed the recommended gro bag type charts for what to put on in what temp.
Got to almost one and I gave up. My son just loves being toasty like his mum and wants more than recommended. He’s older now so I’m confident he can kick off/get out if needed now he’s almost two but he’s currently in bed in a 17-18 degree room in long pjs fluffy socks and 2 duvets- one is a 10.5tog and one 4.5tog.
By all accounts it’s far too much, but he’s sleeping through and not too hot to touch/sweaty when I check in on him 🤷🏼‍♀️
I wouldn’t want you to do any harm to yours, but for me the odd extra layer/tucking a muslin blanket in tightly over his gro bag so he felt secure and snug made a difference.

Our room is generally about 21 degrees (not out of choice!). I dress DS in a sleep suit and a 1.5 tog grobag but he always feels chilly in the night/morning.

@20viona thanks for the reply. How old is your LO?

@Sweetooth92 I'm the same, I like to be warm! Unlike her father who's always hot and we constantly can't agree on whether she's too hot or to cold (apparently I overdress her at times according to him - in the day mind)! I agree it's all trial and error and I know it's just guidelines...it's so hard not to worry. She doesn't feel hot or clammy on her chest.

@Squeakybubbles26 it’s so difficult isn’t it when your other half runs hot and doesn’t understand 😂 fortunately DS is now old enough to be open in his adoration for layers, fluffy socks and his dressing gown so it’s fairly clear he likes to be snug and warm. Maybe try an extra layer or blanket for her day nap when you can keep a close check on that she isn’t sweaty/too warm and gauge how it affects sleep and take it from there?
I guess babies are the same as us adults and some are colder than others. Which makes sense-you just never read anything about it!

It took me a longer time to realise that DA was cold at night despite following the gro egg advice. His room is 20/21 but drops to 18/19 in the small hours.

He wears a vest, babygro and a 3.5 tog sleeping bag that I don't zip up properly until his dream feed at 10.30/11.00

Dd is 12 months, room same as op, dressed same as op baby.

She is a hot baby, but I'm learning also likes to be cosy in winter, gets hot more in summer and busy situations like dad.

20viona · 12/11/2019 22:06

@Squeakybubbles26 she's 4.5 months!

NoParticularPattern · 12/11/2019 22:10

Sounds similar to our room. Baby is 3.5 months, room is 18 currently but I expect it to drop to closer to 17 overnight (hoping not to get as low as a couple of nights ago which was 15 🥶🥶🥶). He is in sleepsuit, SS vest and a 2.5 tog bag. Plus he sleeps in bed with my boob me all night so will be toasty from that. If he were on his own all night I might actually put a thin cardi under too. He does like to be toasty which is why he likes sleeping in our bed

ememem84 · 12/11/2019 22:14

Dd is 3.5 months. She’s in a long sleeve bodysuit, sleepsuit, 2.5 tog bag and a blanket over the top (wool crocheted blanket). Her room is 16 point something degrees.

In contrast ds is 2, is in normal pjs and a vest, no socks, and no sleep bag as he’d outgrown them (and also worked out how to get out of them). He has a duvet which he’s kicked off and a blanket over (also kicked off).

stucknoue · 12/11/2019 22:16

An old fashioned cellular blanket is great as they can regulate temperature better than sleeping bags ... interestingly I was told that gro bag was dangerous when mine were small as several kids overheated, blankets work better as you can add and subtract

Squeakybubbles26 · 13/11/2019 04:50

Thanks for all your replies.
So that has been the best nights sleep I think I've ever had with DD2! She slept so much better with little squirming and didn't stir as much! Now whether that's down to age or being warmer who knows however I'm pleased and will continue to put a short sleeve body suit under her sleep suit! ☺️
