Tips for getting 8 week old to nap in the day

Our DD sleeps really well in the snuzpod at night, and goes down really quickly / resettles herself. But no luck in the day!

She gets so grumpy and screamy and overtired that it's impossible to settle her.

She will often have a very long sleep in a carrier or sling over lunchtime. I was totally happy with this, but unfortunately I've had quite a serious breast abscess and surgery and I can't hold her like that at the moment. My husband has gone part time for the first six months, so he can do that when he's here.

She sometimes falls asleep in the car, but obviously we can't do that every time.

The books seem to say to put her down when she's tired, and comfort her when she fusses, then put her back down again. But she just screams and screams! I've never known her drift off in the daytime lying flat.

Any suggestions?

How long is she awake for in the day? I'm at 6 weeks currently and baby can rarely do more than an hour awake without being overtired. Normally after 45/50 minutes I start the nap time routine.
We started by getting her to sleep in our arms then putting her down, then over the last week we've gradually been putting her down very drowsy, then a bit more alert to help her learn to self settle in the day. We often take a few steps backwards before we see progress but I think it'll help in the long run.

She stays awake for ages - two or three hours at least. That's really the problem.

What routine do you do to get her to sleep in your arms / get drowsy? DD never seems to do that, she just stays alert and happy and interested until suddenly she's screaming.
