Helping baby with silent reflux sleep

My 8 month old EBF baby has had some reflux on and off since he was about 3 months old. GP prescribed infant Gaviscon, we'd give it to DS just once a day if the reflux seemed to be flaring up, then stop when it calmed down.

We started solid foods 2 months ago, and spitting up stopped then so we assumed DS had grown out of reflux. However recently DS has started waking in the night every 2-4 hours crying as if in pain, with a phlegmy sounding cough and sticking sounding breathing. I think it's silent reflux, especially as he sometimes arches his back and cries at the end of a breastfeed if it's been a big feed.

Problem is that DS has also had quite a lot of constipation. GP has prescribed Movicol for the constipation, and told us to stop all other medications until DS is having regular bowel movements.

When DS was having Gaviscon just before bed, he would sleep 7-8 hour stretch at night, and no phlegmy sounds. As I can't give him Gaviscon at the moment, does anyone have any other suggestions to help him sleep?

I am trying to lengthen the gap between bedtime feed and putting him down to sleep (he currently has bath, then pyjamas and nappy, then breastfeed, then story, then about 10 minutes of being cuddled upright before being put down to bed). Anyone else had any success helping reflux-y baby when they can't have meds?

Sorry - BF baby, not EBF - he's weaned on 3 meals per day with 4 day breastfeeds and 1-2 night breastfeeds.

I would try holding him for at least 20 mins upright, we got told off our paediatrician to lift the head on our DD cot up abit I think you have to be advised this as it goes against safe sleeping. Gripe water did help a little as it says on the back about acid and that’s herbal. Gaviscon does make them constipated, we give gaviscon and colief in a bottle, we don’t wait 30 mins for the colief to work as we don’t use it to neutralise the milk we do it as it helps with constipation. Our DD is on gaviscon and lanzaprosal which is really good and her constipation has got better (currently weaning of colief).
