up with the lark

I wonder if anyone can help me. My lo is 16 months and slept through 7ish to 7ish most days, barring a bit of teething trouble. For the last month or so his sleep has been all over the place. He has howled at night when he used to go down no bother and does this manic "mummy mummy mummy" shouting. For the last few weeks he has been waking up at 5 to 5.30am. Whilst I can get him to sleep most nights eventually I can't get him back to sleep in the morning. I have tried cc and he will howl for ever. He is wrecked with getting up at this hour- he used to nap at noon but now is completely knackered by about 10 and if I don't put him down he falls over and bumps his head on things! He is then a total mess by bedtime and the whole thing is a vicious circle. There have been no major changes to our routine so I am at a complete loss. I wouldn't mind him getting up with the lark if he was full of beans but the poor lad can't stick it. Any suggestions very, very gratefully received

Dark room with black out curtains, story tapes on tapemachine/put radio on, you no the only real answer is to put up with cc for a couple of weeks.

Don't try CC in the mornings, it just doesn't work and makes you all miserable. You might want to look at what you do when he gets up - is it making getting up too appealing?! (eg we used to bring our boy in with us - had to stop that and delay first breastfeed of morning) Other strategies might be extra top up meal of porridge or other stuffing last thing before bed; earlier bed in case it's overtiredness; later bed for a week (!) to see if that knocks the whole routine forward a bit; and most of all crossing fingers and hoping it changes, because mostly, these things do, eventually.

thanks all. Last two mornings he has made it to 6.40 and we have been able to go back to our old noon nap, so fingers crossed.

Might be a hiccup, fingers crossed. I had two early risers 5.30 - 6 am most days. And nothing worked.

he is back to the early rising caper again and is so tired. Bring on those back teeth!
