Hi

We have recently moved 3 weeks ago which meant new room, new cot for DD. Since birth we have fed her and cuddled her before every nap/bedtime to sleep. She can however sleep through and is able to settle herself through the night.

However... I started back at work last week. CM texts 'DD still awake after her milk so will put her in her cot and see if she falls asleep'. I'm thinking wtf? She's wishful thinking. For us... it would mean she would start getting ratty and within 15 mins we would have to probably rock her to sleep. CM tells me she fell asleep on her own after just 2 mins, slept for 1.5 hours 😫. This happened 2 days consecutively for both naps.

After 2nd day I said to my DH, let's try just putting her down in her cot tonight instead of cuddling. She winged and cried for 5 mins until I had heard enough.

Now I know she obviously can settle and it's out of habit, that she falls asleep on us, but her falling asleep on her own all the time would avoid the dreaded 'put down' which 9 times out of 10 she wakes and looks at you and you have to stand back patting for ages lol!

Has anyone experienced this, and managed to get their child to do the same for them? If so, how?

I absolutely do not want to let her cry it out and get herself worked up because even just the 5 mins the other day she got far too worked up and it was probably more like 3 mins.

Thanks

Unfortunately this is often the case. She's in a habit with you and why would she want to change that? But you know she can go to sleep on her own unassisted, up to you whether you want to try tougher measures or not. Good luck!
