Cot bumpers that come up from under the mattress

Hi,

Does anybody know where I can find a cot bumper that fits under the mattress and then comes out? I've looked everywhere and tried putting in loads of different things to find out.

Picture below is what I'm looking for.

Cot bumpers arent recommended in cots

lllnelson · 16/10/2019 17:46

@dementedpixie I know that's why I'm looking for one like this. It a sheet and comes up from under the sheet. Isn't attached in anyway to the cot

That picture seems to show it secured round a couple of the bars

arapacis · 16/10/2019 17:48

Even so, it's still a suffocation risk.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2019 17:48

Where's the picture from?

00100001 · 16/10/2019 17:48

Why do you want bumpers?

00100001 · 16/10/2019 17:49

I can’t imagine anyone on here will help you find something that is known to increase the risk os SIDS

Lunafortheloveogod · 16/10/2019 17:51

It’s the risk of suffocating from rolling into them face first not pulling them off the cot. There might be a breathable version somewhere but padded ones like that aren’t safe at all.

Lazypuppy · 20/10/2019 11:34

@lllnelson IKEA sell those, we used them for my dd

TreadLightly3 · 20/10/2019 23:45

I’ve been using this one - designed to stop them hitting the sides so hard. I got it from John Lewis - it’s breathable so apparently doesn’t create risk of SIDS like normal ones might www.johnlewis.com/airwrap-four-sided-baby-cot-bumper-white/p2155876

No bumpers are the only safe bumpers.

BeanBag7 · 21/10/2019 07:36

Why do you need them? The material on those in the picture is so thin I can't imagine it actually prevents the child from bumping themselves. Why risk it?

MollyButton · 21/10/2019 07:40

And part of the reason against Cot Bumpers is that it impacts the air flow, so an infant could overheat.

tumbleisatwat · 21/10/2019 07:45

What for?

IncrediblySadToo · 21/10/2019 07:46

Try banging your head on a door frame then try it again with a cot bumper - it’ll make feck all difference

I’m astounded anyone still uses them. The ties are only one reason not to.

ncfortuesday · 21/10/2019 07:52

Why do you want them?

The risk is more to do with your baby re breathing carbon dioxide that they have exhaled, not getting tangled up in anything that's attached to the cot and strangling themselves, although that is also a risk.

Why on earth would you risk it after all the research that shows they increase the risk of SIDS?

blahblahblahblahhh · 21/10/2019 07:53

Hard to find cot bumpers of any description because they are a big risk.

ncfortuesday · 21/10/2019 07:57

trigger warning sids

People who don't take safe sleep seriously honestly baffle me. I have seen babies die, actually die from SIDS. They are found by their parents cold and grey in their cots and are gone forever. Can you even begin to imagine the horror?

Why in gods name would you risk that outcome when you can just not!?

I suggest you look at the lullaby trust.

maternity123qwe · 21/10/2019 08:08

We used the airwrap breathable ones from John Lewis that a previous poster has linked. This was because DC kept getting his legs and arms stuck in the sides of the cot bars.
They are breathable and safe and purely to prevent him injuring himself. Suggest you get these

MerryDeath · 21/10/2019 08:13

we used an air wrap, briefly because it was quite annoying and i was being totally PFB and OTT. this was when Ds started sleeping in his own bed at 15 mo i wouldn't bother at all with a little baby. anyway they are a faff and Ds doesn't seem to care at all even now he's 2.5 if he crashes into the cot side whilst being a tetris block in the middle of the night.

JoanneMumsnet · 21/10/2019 10:39

We think now would be a good time to post a link to the NHS page on baby and toddler safety.

Here's what it says:

Do not use pillows or duvets with babies under the age of 1, as they can suffocate if their face gets smothered. They won't be able to push the duvet away. Babies should always sleep on their back with their feet at the foot of their cot. Tuck the blanket in across their chest and under their arms and keep the cot free from bumpers, pillows and soft toys.

@JoanneMumsnet

please can you delte the links to the cot bumpers?

ncfortuesday · 21/10/2019 14:40

@JoanneMumsnet I second @00100001 's suggestion to remove those links.

you'd think John Lewis would know better.
