DS slept through last night!

He is 3 months today, what a star. Had dreamfeed at 10.30, then woke at 5, snuffled, sent himself back to sleep and then woke for feeding at 6.

Of course he will now not do it again for ages, but still...

Long may it last! (nearly 15 months, still waking at least once a night...)

Well done Flowerybeanbag - hurrah!

As a newbie mum, interested to know - how much do you think you've made this happen, and how much do you think it's just what he was ready to do?

Well of course it's all down to me...

No, not really, think it's a bit of both.

We started doing a dreamfeed about 3 or 4 weeks ago, so he has a good feed at 6.15-6.30 ish, then bed, then we dreamfeed him at 10.30. We also started feeding him at 7am regardless of what time he fed during the night.

He started taking more during the day, and I thought, if he's taking that much during the day, let's try reducing how much he has during the night.
So I started cutting back his night feed to 100ml (about 3.5 oz), then when he was still looking to suck, gave him his dummy for a minute and then he was fine, back asleep.
At first I thought it would mean he would be up again in a couple of hours, but actually he was up no sooner than usual, so I think the night feed was becoming a bit of a habit rather than being starving. And he wouldn't be happy with his dummy if he actually needed more feed.

So we carried on with that for a couple of weeks, and he gradually moved back the night 'snack' to 3.30, then 4.00, etc, until the last few nights it was about 4.30 -5.00, then he did 6 as I said, hoorah!

So we kind of massaged things so he was taking good feeds at 6.15 and 10.30, then reduced his nightfeed, fed him same time each morning regardless, and he then moved the nightfeed later and later by himself, we didn't try to hold him off til later or anything like that.

Bit of both then, but basically he was taking enough during the day, and also was ready to go through as well.

Needless to say, he didn't quite do it last night! He was up 3.30, but settled himself back after gurgling and 'talking' for about 20mins, clearly not hungry, then needed feeding 5.35, so not bad at all.

Well I'm very impressed. I reckon DD's eating habits will call the shots - and they do seem to be settling down a bit...
