"They sleep much better when they start school"

Just in case anyone else with an awful sleeper is clinging, as I did, to this fond hope......its a myth. Three weeks into school, she still gets up several times in the night, she still isn't sleepy at 8pm, she still gets us all up at an ungodly hour of the morning. And I had SOOO wanted this to work. I've been waiting five years for the much promised good sleep. Bah humbug!

Like 'they sleep better on formula'. And 'they sleep better with food'.

SURELY she'll laze in bed for hours in a few years' time...?

I try to feel pleased on dd's behalf, that she is one of those people who doesn't need much sleep. Sooooo useful as an adult!

But I am also praying that no2 inherits its sleep needs from me (ie, lots) and not from dh.

Hang in there Jan. One day your teenage dd will want to sleep till lunchtime and you can go and wake her up . Revenge will be sweet.

janinlondon · 23/09/2004 15:09

I am plotting my revenge even as we speak - vacuum cleaning at dawn when she's 17!! Also planning to give her the numbers of all the people who reassured me about this phenomenon, so she can give them a call and discuss it at 2am instead of asking me to come and play checkers.(!)

Ah, that'll be why my little poppet was still wandering around at 11.30pm last night, JanIL! She seemed a bit offended when I told her I didn't want to talk to her at that time of night.

nutcracker · 23/09/2004 16:51

Oh i have the opposite prob actually.

Dd2 has been falling asleep at her desk since starting school. She was having probs with lethargy anyway and this seems to have set her backa bit.

I literally have to force her to stay awake for dinner.

Sorry i know this is of no help whatsoever to anyone whos child won't sleep.

EvilDragon · 23/09/2004 16:58

"they sleep better when you give them medised plus piriton"

KateandtheGirls · 23/09/2004 17:01

I know that there is going to come a point when my girls will WANT to stay in bed in the morning. It can't come soon enough. I'm sure it won't be until they're in high school, when for some ridiculous reason, they will have to catch the school bus at 6:30am.

suedonim · 23/09/2004 17:44

No, they don't, Evildragon - that makes them scoot round the room at ceiling height for several hours, arrrrgghhh!!

yingers74 · 23/09/2004 21:16

I guess that is why they turn into teenagers so as we can catch up on sleep!

Grommit · 23/09/2004 21:34

Dd has just started school - she is tired and grumpy until bedtime but still gets up at 6am, just to be tired and grumpy until school. Ds (10m) has been enjoying a 5am start for the past few weeks. The only thing about motherhood I don't like - NO SLEEP

marthamoo · 23/09/2004 22:12

Nah, it's rubbish - ds1 always has been and always will be (well, possibly not when he is a teenager and, boy, will I relish my revenge then...) a ridiculously early riser: school or no school.

janinlondon · 24/09/2004 10:18

So glad to find I am not the only one in this situation, but I do want to smack all the people who gave me false hope!!! How gullible must I look????

JaninLondon, the good thing is though, now shes at school she will learn to read, and my dd who is not a good sleeper, now sits in bed READING...not jumping out of the bed every 5 mins to tell me she cant sleep, so there IS hope for a bit of peace if nothing else.
