When did your toddler stop napping?

My kid has just turned two, and seems to have decided she doesn't need her afternoon nap anymore. This has been a really abrupt change as previously she would go down in her cot with zero fuss for 1.5 hrs (ish). Now she won't nap at all at nursery, and we've had a few days at home where she'll just sit playing in her cot for an hour! nothing else has changed in her routine. She's v fractious by the end of the day, as you would expect. I'm terrified that this is the end and we're going to spend the next year dealing with a tired, cranky toddler. She does sleep a solid 12 hours at night, so maybe I shouldn't be worrying. Did anyone else's toddler drop their nap this young? Or go through a phase of it then start napping again?

Mine started refusing any nap at 14 months, a massive battle ensued for several months with naps some days and not others. Last nap they ever took was 22 months.

Just after 2nd birthday for both. But they slept solidly 12hrs at night. If DS got even a short nap he was up til 10 or 11pm.

My daughter stopped napping for a bit at that age - I kept offering nap/quiet time and she started napping again after a week or so.

She doesn't nap at nursery though but she only goes twice a week

Mine is a week off turning three and he is nap free about 5/6 days out of 7. Sometimes he's just really tired and has about 45 mins.

His older brother dropped his last nap at around 32 months. Just dropped it for good.

DS is 3 and was still napping at nursery until last week until we asked them to distract him instead.

He never naps at the weekend! And we were having issues getting him to bed before 9 on weekdays.

He was super grumpy the last few days but seems to have settled into the new routine.

My DD never refused naps but at age 2.5ish I realised she was taking ages to get to sleep at night and just didn't seem tired. I tried no naps for a few days and bedtimes were much easier. 3 months later she sometimes has a nap in the car for 30 minutes but if this is in the afternoon, it affects bedtime. About once or twice a week she has a long nap in the afternoon as I can tell she is desperate for it. We then have to put her to bed later to make up for it.

Dc1 was about 3 when she stopped napping. Dc2 stopped napping the week of his 2nd birthday and dc 3 stopped regularly napping when she started school, aged 4 years and 10 months! She had a nap last weekend as she was tired after a full nights sleep, so maybe not a good example really!

My dd is beginning to refuse them. She’s 2y2m

I have to go day to day - offer a nap and if she doesn’t want to I try not to get stressed about it (god I’ll miss the time to myself!) and just take her out so the day goes quicker. She is really horrid by 5pm on a no nap day so I make sure she’s down by 6:30.

elliejjtiny · 28/09/2019 16:55

Ds1 was 5 months, ds2 was 5 years and the others were around 2 years.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 28/09/2019 17:02

DS dropped them from about 2y 4 mo but from 2 they were a bit patchy. Also if he did nap then he wouldn't sleep at night till 8.30-9pm ish. I think if she's going 12 hours straight then it'll be fine. My son rarely has more than 11 hours now even without the nap and still wakes up at least once most nights 😵

Kayyy · 29/09/2019 18:02

My boy is 2 and still like a nap, speically if hes woken up early or been out for the day:)

MerryDeath · 29/09/2019 18:13

DS is two and a half and still needs a nap really but can manage without if he is suitably entertained. if we are just hanging at home is when he can be a problem. they are all different though.

alioliloved · 29/09/2019 18:26

My DD is 21 months and the last few weeks she has had one day where she refuses a nap... I feel that it's likely only to get more frequent!
(Am I a bad mum for being gutted about this?)

MerryDeath · 29/09/2019 20:36

@alioliloved no you are not. nap is when i regain my sanity to see me though to bedtime. don't know what i'll do without it!

Harrysmummy246 · 30/09/2019 21:31

It seems at 2.3yo that DS is more or less dropping them
He fell asleep in the car today at 3:30 and bedtime was an hour later than it was yesterday and took rather longer to get there plus he was a grouchy sod as he hadn't had quite enough sleep to be enough
