4 month baby bedtime

My DD is 4 months but has no set bedtime as such. Its normally just 2 or so hours after her last nap which is all she can really stay awake for.
How do people set a bedtime at this age especially if they had a late-ish nap?

She self settles in cot for naps when she is tired but rarely does this for bedtime. She will normally kick about until I soothe her one way or another.

I dont have a routine as such because she wakes anywhere between 5-7.
I dont want to do a strict routine with her because i like going out and about so dont get how it naps/feeds at set times would work if not indoors.

Any advice appreciated

How are you feeding ?

I’m bf my 4 month old and find it hard to set a time with him feeding on demand. Also his nap lengths vary from day to day.

I just gave myself a window of around 6-8pm and aimed for that but I do find now he starts getting tired about 6ish even if he has only napped the hour before so I aim to have him down about 7 although that doesn’t happen as he too kicks off a bit sometimes!

P.s I don’t think they work if your not indoors. We’re out a lot too and I just work around that so if he needs to nap in the car and I need to sit and wait for him to wake I do. Definitely no set day time routine here!

I still do this with my 16 month old - bedtime is anywhere between 7 and 8 o’clock, depending on how late/long his afternoon nap was. I don’t see the point in fighting through bedtime when a child just isn’t tired enough...

@Mikewazowskismrs @PuffHuffle5
Thank you!
Im just going to carry on as I am then because although she is bottle fed her feed times still vary because she doesnt always finish a bottle and sometimes wants the rest an hour later.
I suppose the saying 'if its not broke dont fix it' applies.
