Sleep when on holiday what did you do?

DS is 2.4 years old and very tall for his age. He is still in his cot bed with sides on at home and we see no reason to take the sides off just yet but we are going on two holidays coming up and I'm not sure what he will sleep in while we are away?
He is too big now for the standard size travel cots his head and feet touch the ends and he has no room to move around in the night which results in him waking up when he turns over.
What did you do for sleep when you were in holiday?
It makes it trickier that he's not in a bed at home yet so he hasn't had to go to sleep with sides off and realise he can get up and walk around.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks ☺️

We had the same issue but younger age. First holiday they provided a cot. It looked quite old though and I didn’t know whether it passed the checks, so I put him in bed with me. And that’s what he’s done for every holiday since!

If we’re in a room with more than one bed I’ll sneak out when he’s asleep. I put pillows on each side so he can’t roll off easily. He never has.

We used one of those foldable travel bed guards - either on a single by herself with one side against the wall or on her side of a double with me.

Is there a seperate bed he can sleep in? Can you take a bed guard?

I think all of mine were in beds before then due to one climber. I think our first holiday after cots we used the ready beds in our room.

Thanks guys great ideas 💡Do you think it will matter if we take a foldable bed guard and use that but he's not in a bed at home? Because he won't be used to being put to bed in a bed where he can just sit up and get out if he wants? That's my concern

We asked hotels in advance if they could provide large travel cots (120cmx60cm). DD is a brilliant sleeper (as long as she is in the cot) and I didn't want to take any risks with her sleep on holidays. The hotel staff might have thought we were a real nuisance but in all the cases they were able to help and get us the right sized travel cots.
