Help! Newborn struggling to sleep

My lb is 5 weeks and for the past week has had a period every night from around 8pm to 1am of constant crying until the point of wailing and turning red. He has a cold but it's turned more stuffy and I can hear him struggling to exhale in his cot. I'm worried as I don't know what to do to help him and I know it must be hard being stuffed with cold and not being able to sleep because of it. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a humidifier as I heard that can help with the snots on his chest, he only seems to settle lying on my chest in bed and even though I don't mind giving up my sleep for him- I am shattered from these nights. Help, anyone? 😔

Snufflebabe rub- it's the baby safe equivalent of vicks

Snot sucker.

Take it in turns with baby's dad- shifts effectively. We were certainly doing that at 5 weeks without any snot!

Hi, if your baby is crying at the same time every time he may have colic, our daughter did, what helped us was a pitch black room and swaddled, infacol helped with her wind but didn’t really help with colic and the biggest help of all, by far was a dummy! For a cold like PP snuffle babe is great and I also find children albas oil in a bowl of hot water helps (which I replace through the night when getting up to feed)

Colic by the way usually does start at 3 weeks!

A nose Frieda snot sucker can help relieve congestion. And the snuffle baby rub is good.
But some of this is really normal at five weeks.. young babies are often up to the wee hours! It does all settle down.
Can you and your partner take turns holding him so you can get some rest?

Shower on as hot as it will go. Let bathroom fill with steam and hold baby in bathroom. This was suggested to me in here 10 years ago and it helped a little x

Hows his naps in the day? Is he overtired? Made that mistake with my first and he was furious in the evenings. Make sure he's only awake 45mins - 1.5hrs max then do what you can to get him to nap (sling/pram etc). If you can sort his day sleep he'll sleep better at night. Tracey Hogg has good books on the subject.
