5 month old variable night time sleep

Hi all.

Looking for a little advice.

My little one is 5 1/2 months old and has very irregular wake times at night.

I try and dream feed her around 10-10:30 but she is now waking before her feed. She sometimes sleeps through till 5ish but on other occasions will wake at 1-2ish wanting a feed and then again from 5 onwards.

Nothing has changed with her bed time routine and although she is feeding a little less during the day as she is older it doesn’t seem like that would be the reason as she still feeds well.

Is there anything I can do for a more settled night for both of us or do I just need to ride the storm?

Thanks in advance

Hollie

Hi, if she is feeding less in the day she may need the extra feed at night as her milk volume should not drop as she is getting older it should increase unless she is on solids? My son at 5 and a half months lost interest in bottles as he was ready to be weaned which I spoke to the HV about as he was a prem baby. Do you think she maybe getting ready for solids?

I say feeding less but she is breast fed so don’t know how much she takes but she has definitely dropped a feed and when I offer flat out refuses so I’m assuming she is ok.

Interestingly she’s 24 +5 weeks and we have started weaning her the last few days and she seems to be taking to it well.

Not sure this will have an effect on her sleep pattern.

It might not straight away but once her volume of food increases you should see a change at night, she may still need some milk in the night but after a while you can offer water in the night instead as it’s more boring than milk and it can stop them waking for it. Our son took to weaning very well as he was ready, it sounds like yours was too.
