ROFL

Am still waiting, 4 years on...
I've heard it said that teenagers like to sleep all day though, so there is hope. Course by then we will have forgotten how to sleep beyond 6.30am.

flowerybeanbag · 06/08/2007 09:20

MaeBee clicked hopefully on this thread, same reason as you, hoping for stories of miraculous babies suddenly realising that 5am is not morning.
Come on people, must be someone! I can't wait til DS is a teenager!

Cappuccino · 06/08/2007 09:21

'my baby got up at 5 most mornings till I stuck blackout curtaining around her window frame with stick-on velcro. Now she sleeps till 6.15'

Easywriter · 06/08/2007 09:22

Sorry, no such advice to be had from me.

The do wake up later as time ticks by (they're now 3.5 and waking anytime after 6 which I consider to be a result!!)

Sorry!

3Ddonut · 06/08/2007 09:23

Around 3, then at around 4 they start getting up early again (6-ish) and asking for cbeebies!

Easywriter · 06/08/2007 09:24

F**kin' 'ell!

You are joking aren't you 3DDonut?

3Ddonut · 06/08/2007 09:26

NO, hehehehehe!!!!!!! but now aged 5 and 3 they go downstairs together and make breakfast and put the TV on, mind, I've still got to get up for the baby (14mnts) Still......

expatinscotland · 06/08/2007 09:28

Mine lie in till 10 or 11 most days.

DH and I are night owls. So are they.

peggotty · 06/08/2007 09:29

What I want to know, is when can you let them get up on their own while you laze in bed! I remember getting up on my own at about 6 or 7yrs and watching telly but that's aaaaages away for me - dd 2.5, pg with no.2.

My dd goes through phases of waking at 6, sometimes it's nearer to 7 and one golden morning it was 7.45!! It's currently 6.15. Anything after 6 is a bonus.

Easywriter · 06/08/2007 09:30

Expat...

sAurorhal · 06/08/2007 09:30

DS1 is 4.3 and up any time between 5.15 and 6.00!

We are having some real battles at the moment as he is starting school in September and I know he will be exhausted by the afternoon. So we are trying to get him back to bed once he is up. It's a nightmare. I set my clock for 5.15 and just stay in bed waiting to hear him up then attempt to get him back to bed saying it's still the middle of the night! Sometimes it works for an hour or so! Mostly not. But when it's DH's turn to do it - he doesn't hear him, then he screams and shouts and him, then wakes DS2 up - think i shall just do it myself from now on!

3Ddonut · 06/08/2007 09:33

peg, I think the answer to that is when you feel comfortable with it. Very recently, we have allowed our 5 year old to go downstairs on her own, of course 3yo ds follows...we let them have an hour or so, she gets her own breakfast (and his) they have 'cold toast' which filled me with horror, until i realised that it was just bread! We unplug toaster on a night now! You don't really sleep anyway, so are 'alert' to what is going on!

peggotty · 06/08/2007 09:33

I can see the attraction of 10 or 11, but it would mean letting my dd stay up late and I HAVE to have the evening without her, so she goes to bed at 7pm, so really I can't expect her to sleep much later than 6-7am! I wish I was one of those relaxed mums who don't worry about their kids going to bed a bit later.

peggotty · 06/08/2007 09:34

3Ddonut - oh well only another couple of years to wait for me

CarGirl · 06/08/2007 09:36

mine always got up about 7am. DD1 slept in often from the age of 7ish now at 10 will often sleep until 10 at the weekends!

kid · 06/08/2007 09:36

DS (5.4) is an early riser, usually up by 6 which is still too early for me during holidays and at weekends.

DD (8.7) is happy to stay in bed until 9 or 10! That must have started around 8 years old. Its not so good on school days though as she literally has 10 minutes to get ready and eat breakfast.

Tortington · 06/08/2007 09:37

mine could get up at 3 if they wanted - they couldnt comeout of their room until 7

no effing way could i do years of 5 am.

3Ddonut · 06/08/2007 09:38

have you seen those bunny alarm clocks from gltc? you set it to 'wake up' at a certain time say 7am, when it gets to 7, it's ears lift up so you lo knows it's OK to get up once bunny is up, but not before....you can also use it as a traditional alarm clock. Sorry rubbish at links!

MaeBee · 06/08/2007 13:02

thanks for nothing!!
only another 3 or 4 yrs to go then...
mine doesn't know about the existence of tv yet, hes only 10mths, but maybe i will succoumb to the square babysitter yet.

erm, my eldest is now nearly 10. That's years not months. And still rises with the lark. The good news is, he now is more quiet about it. and will sometimes even bring me a cup of tea in bed

LazyLineLegilimens · 06/08/2007 13:12

agree custardo.

chinwag · 06/08/2007 14:16

Mine are 7 & 9, and can wake around 6, but we have a rule that they can read quietly until 6.30, then they can PLAY quietly in their room until 7.

Trinityrhino · 06/08/2007 14:17

dd1 is 7 and has never grown out of waking at 6 - 6.30

dd2 is 2 and recently started to sleep till 7.30

MaeBee · 07/08/2007 09:07

6 or 6.30 sounds fab to me! thats a bloody big lie in!
