Tips for coping with sleep deprivation

Just that. What gets you through the day? I have ban eight week old who sleeps exactly as you would expect an eight week old to sleep. I have a toddler, so nap opportunities are limited.

I find coffee only gets me so far - bybtr third cup.it just sends me fuzzy, rather than woken up. A brisk walk peps me up for a while. What's anyone else trying?!

Well that's a typo-riddled mess! I'm clearly not at my best! Confused

I play games that allow me to pretend to be asleep on floor. Three year old sometimes scares me awake with a loud Mummy. I hasten to add baby was in cot with breathing monitor on in room with us!

That's genius!

Plodding on through, knowing it does get better, and early nights. No magic solution from me unfortunately. I find keeping busy rather than sitting down too much helps me, if I sit I really want to stay which isn't good.

I'm pregnant with a one year old so have started to be quite strict about nap time in the vain hope it'll give me an hour or so when the baby arrives to 'relax'. I'm aware that's laughable, I can but try Grin

I find eating little and often helps. A well timed banana (or chocolate hobnob hidden from the 3yo) helps. I also like lemon scented shower gel.

A proper hot shower in the morning. (DD rolls around the bathroom floor gurgling to herself.) A fuckton of blusher and highlighter so at least I LOOK human. Out the door ASAP, rain or shine, DD in sling, for early morning fresh air. Haribo. Flagging by mid-afternoon so I lie down on the playmat with her. Going to bed when she does and never seeing DP. Writing little sleep fantasies on my phone while she naps (always in the bastard sling so no sleeping while baby sleeps), imagining the 12-hour stretches I'll have, the baths I'll take, the leisurely two-handed breakfasts I'll eat. Handing her off to DP on weekend mornings then pissing about on my phone instead of sleeping.

@burritofan GrinI love your post!!! It really made me laugh! Thank you x Very relatable!

I also have dreams of what I'll do when my DD takes longer naps...sounds like heaven even just a hot cup of tea and a nice breakfast, maybe flick leisurely through a magazine- uninterrupted!!

@mumma90 Ah, good. I've just eaten an entire bag of Percy Pigs and now feel dreadful and shaky from the sugar, need a new plan. DD is on the playmat and I am lying on the sofa watching her and daydreaming about having a nice restful illness that requires a hospital stay and lots of lovely sleep as advised by doctors so I simply have to get eight hours. (I'd kill for just 3 in a row.)

I have no idea but am in the same boat with a three year old and a three week old. I’m hanging on until September and school nursery starts and I can have a morning nap.
