Is 4 months too early for a real routine?!

My DD is just 4 months old this week. She hasn’t been the best at sleeping so far but had recently been sleeping until 5am when put down at around 9pm - amazing. After recently being on hol for a week (not abroad) She is now getting up again and being really fussing on going down.

My concern that I want advice on is should she have a proper routine in place by now or is it still to early with her changing her habits frequently?

Currently we bath about 6.45pm and she’s usually on the breast by 7.30pm (exclusivley BF), quite often have to keep her awake for a good feed for an hour or so, usually down for around 9pm - Until recently when she’s become really fussy and won’t go down after feed and is really wriggley and unhappy. Could we be keeping her up too late and she’s getting overtired? Can she be starting to teeth at 4 mo? Any advice on good routines at this age? She also will not nap in the day so is of course always super tired by the afternoon☹️

Teething?

Then next you have rolling then crawling.

Yes they can start teething at 4 months. My DD had holes you could see in her jaw before her teeth came through in them so it was understandable why she didn't sleep and cried in pain.

When they start a new movement they often don't sleep and practice it at night.

Yes my daughter did similar at 4months. Although she started waking at 3am.. talking to herself and banging her legs on the bars of her cot. We moved her into her own room at 5 months.
You say you have to keep her awake for a good feed? If she falls asleep at 8/8.30 maybe put her down at that time rather than keep her awake till 9?
My ds never slept in the day either god that was torture because he woke every 2 hours during the night.
I wish I had just gone with whatever my children were doing rather than fight against it iykwim?
Although sleep deprivation almost sent me insane

A routine at 4 months is genuinely absurd. It's a baby, not a Gina Ford robot.

Also look up 4 month sleep regression

And remember, sleep development isn't linear- lots of curves and bumps along the way Smile

Hang in there!

Sorry what did you say sengah Grin

Why are you forcing her to stay awake for an hour and then forcing her to sleep?
Let her sleep when she is ready, not you.

Did @Sengah agree with me? Grin

The 4 month sleep regression is a genuine experience. it will pass but takes a while, a good few months in my kid's cases.

Sengah · 07/08/2019 19:59

Sorry I am a Gina Ford Robot and my hard drive malfunctioned 🤦🏽‍♀️😊
