Dummy

Hi allll, recently been on holiday with our friends and their baby, our babies are 4 months old and only a week apart! Friends baby sleeps all night, sleeps when he is put into his crib but also has a dummy. My DS doesn't have a dummy, doesn't sleep through the night and when places in crib and night time he grunts and sometimes cries until he's rocked to sleep (occasionally our himself off) not really sure what I'm getting at but do you think it's easier for friends DS to settle better with a dummy? Does it take babies without dummy's to find a way to settle themselves longer??? 🤔

Hi kerjohn,

My DS did not have a dummy at all and slept through the night (aside from night feeds in the early days). The only thing I noticed was that he would only settle on me or DH for bed with some white noise in the background as he was used to hearing the tumble dryer in the day. I used a free mobile app that had a selection of white noise on it and used one that sounded like our dryer. Once DS was asleep I would put him in his cot and leave the app running. After an hour I would turn it off and that would be it for the night.

All of my friends have used dummies with their babies and now have the battle of trying to separate them from it.

Thanks for that @SultansOfSwing I do agree, no dummy in the long run is probably better! Is your DS good at napping in the day? DS will only fall asleep if he is rocked to sleep x

He napped really well in the day until around 21 months. Up until around 13 months he would only nap on me or DH but to be honest it was nice to have those lovely cuddles and it forced me to sit down for at least an hour a day and get some rest / read / watch TV. Once he got a bit too big to snuggle upright then he would sleep on the sofa or in his cot for at least an hour after lunch then one day he just stopped and only naps in the day if we are travelling in the car now. If he is excessively tired and won't nap then I just pop him in the car and drive around the block for 5 mins until he drifts off and then carry him in for a nap on the sofa.

You will find a way that works for you but having watched my friends struggle to get dummies off of 4 year olds I have never been tempted.
