Does my baby have reflux? New mum at wits end!!

Baby boy is 6 weeks old, breast fed, got colic I think. Seems to feed 1-2 hours sometimes longer, same with sleeping. Very wide awake in the day having small naps no longer than an hour. Cries in pain after feed, wriggles away or moves head a lot near end of feed. Shows symptoms of hunger even after big feed. I am exhausted! He sneezes, grunts and gets hiccups. Infacol helps within reason. Hopefully getting GP apt tomorrow, hate the idea of putting more medicines in him but desperate

Feeding for a long time is typically at that age, isn’t it?

Do you wind him well after very feed? DS took 30-40mins to burp. We also had a few weeks when we needed to do tummy massages and bicycles several times a day.

Sorry meant *feeding every 1-2 hours not feeding for 😂

Don’t lie him down flat - head above stomach at all times.

They have a muscle at the top of their rib cage and in some babies this doesn’t close properly causing acid burn - this sorts itself out by 6 months

So keep him upright after a feed then lie propped up - try a folded towel under a mattress or what ever

Cacoonababy by red castle saved my life. Son had reflux and colic never stopped only slept in this because it's elevated and comforting. Also perfect for co sleeping as it's high and secure. Sorry your facing this. It gets better my son is now 14 months and we are having such fun. I promise I've been there. Xx

Well I have a Moses basket and bought a foam wedge that fits perfectly under the mattress that seems to do the trick once he’s down. It’s just straight after a feed, even with much winding and potions he’s curving back, going stiff and crying. And oddly enough the worse feed is one at about 3/4am in the morning takes about an hour to get him down. The rest of them aren’t too bad. I also am unsure if I’m producing enough breast milk for him, but seeing as he is wriggles his head off my boob and doesn’t latch near the end (apparently can be related to colic) I never really know.

Have you tried gripe water

RLOU30 · 24/07/2019 15:33

Colief worked a little but it's pricey. I'm afraid really though it is just time. I honestly spent a bunch of money trying everything and the dr put him on ranitidine but even that only worked for a while until it caused constipation (which was even worse). I'm not trying to worry you I'm just trying to save you going mad searching for an answer when it's just development and time for their little insides to develop!

FATEdestiny · 24/07/2019 16:35

Start with the easiest answer - have you tried a dummy?

CharrinCornwall91 · 24/07/2019 20:10

Got a dummy which helps massively (decided to ignore the guilt tripping mums who don’t like them or say he’s too young) infacol and gripewater. I use the infacol before every feed and the gripe water I find more effective if I use it for the really bad ones. Haven’t found the gaviscon effective yet however it is only day 2, going to keep it for night feeds (even though it’s a faff to make up) to avoid the constipation. However my little one is quite regular if I eat a few pieces of fruit. It hasn’t been too bad today, it’s the 3/4am feed that’s always the worst don’t know why!

My DS reflux kicked in when he had his tongue tie snipped aged 4 weeks. He screamed and screamed and screamed. Had to be held all the time. Got wedges for pram, moses basket and cot. Changed my diet to dairy free and ended up on ranitidine which is the only thing that worked. Little ones should not be in pain and a good GP will help!
