18 month sleep regression?

DD 19m has gone from nodding off happily in her cot to trying every trick in the book to not go to sleep.

She isn't upset, she's pissing about laughing, lobbing everything out her cot, banging her feet on the bottom (one thing we won't tolerate as we're attached!!), climbing out. You name it she's done it. She will eventually pass out from exhaustion... but we want our evenings back.

How long in your experience does it take to go back to normal!?

Does it sound like sleep regression to you? Or is that more night waking?

Thanks in advance from a mother sat on her bed wanting to get back down to stranger things and her stone cold dinner.... Angry

In the same position tonight and bumping cos I'm at the end of my tether: she is bartering the cot.

The neighbours will hate us.

Any advice? Please Sad

No advice but I'm also experiencing a horrendous shift in bedtime with my 19mo. Used to peacefully drift off (her only saving grace as she wakes a zillion times in the night) but now screams and screams and will not lie down no matter how long I ignore her behaviour for. Really hope it passes soon!! Internet suggests it only lasts a few weeks...fingers crossed for us both Thanks

jmscp · 11/07/2019 19:55

Ah @littlestrawby thanks for the solidarity.

DD doesn't scream.. she's just being a tiny arsehole and finds the whole thing hilarious.

So frustrating.
Here's hoping it's over soon SadThanks

'Just being a tiny arsehole' 😂😂😂

Sorry OP I have no advice as my tiny arsehole DC is only 14 months... but you've now got me DREADING another sleep regression.

Someaddedsugar · 11/07/2019 19:58

20 month old DS is currently going through a phase of a mix of one night laughing as if everything is hilarious, messing on throwing his bedding out of the cot, banging on the wall etc, and then the next night standing in his cot screaming for what feels like hours! I also want m evenings back!

Someaddedsugar · 11/07/2019 20:00

I’ve tried reading, singing, white noise, ignoring, milk, cuddling and absolutely nothing works! He’s staying at DPILs this weekend for the first time and I suspect it might be the last!

Indecisivelurcher · 11/07/2019 20:07

My Ds is a head banger. In the side of the cot. All sodding night. It's so weird, but apparently it's not uncommon as such and he'll grow out of it. In the meantime he was keeping us all awake. I've ended up putting unholstery foam around the inside of his cot, to muffle the bangs!!! Not ideal, but he's past peak sids risk.

jmscp · 11/07/2019 20:40

Solidarity with all of you. This is really hell.

DD tiny arsehole is meant to be staying at GPs tomorrow too...

Luckily my dad has the patience of a saint. My DP is on about cancelling, fuck that. I want a night away from this madness! It's hardly like it can get any worse at this stage!!! Hmm

Is it considered frowned upon to tie her legs together with chains?...

She just called me Mama for the first time... this child knows what she's doing. She is too clever.

I'm still going to throw her in the bin...

@jmscp don't look her in the eyes, she can sense your weakness!

Thattwatoverthere · 11/07/2019 21:04

Oh shit is this a thing? I was dreading my 3 month old reaching the 4 month regression next month and was happy that my currently 17mo is sleeping through. How on earth am I going to cope with both at the same time?!

Sorry for the total lack of advice but I'll be reading with interest 😥

jmscp · 11/07/2019 21:09

@ChangesAt30 I refuse to look at her when I go in.. she's a sneaky little thing. Grin

I don't want to jinx anything but after an hour and half we seem to have given up and gone to sleep... an hour to "relax" before bed for us. DP is so grumpy so I'm not talking to him and actually may just go bed myself now. Why do men have to be such great big babies about these things!? I know it's frustrating, but jeez it's not personal. Or antibodies fault! Rant over... and breathe.

@Thattwatoverthere I'm fairly sure DD will be an only child, DP doesn't cope well with sleep related issues and DD isn't particularly a "bad sleeper"

Good luck, hopefully you won't need it!! Thanks

Apparently according to Dr Google though 18m sleep regression only lasts a few weeks and isn't a permanent change, apparently going back to their "usual" patterns once it's over...

I certainly hope so or I may start drinking a lot more of these GinWine

Twins here and this regression one of the worst!! But it's temporary. If you have to go in to them, don't look at them. Don't speak to them. Lay them back down and leave the room. If you're going in constantly and giving them attention in any way, this is exactly what they want! And they will very quickly learn what they need to do to get you in there. The little terrors are clever!! The idea is I think if they aren't getting what they want (attention, positive or negative, they really aren't fussed as long as it's attention!) if they aren't getting it they will lose interest in trying and go to sleep. It worked mostly for my twins but not always. Some nights they literally did want to just party all night ConfusedConfused

jmscp · 12/07/2019 06:14

@mintchick oh goodness! Thanks so much for the tips, that's my approach but DP always waffles on at her which I don't think helps!! Will show him your reply so he can see!
