Screaming in the night

Hi everyone
I've just had a night I won't forget anytime soon in the worst way I can think off.
Me, DH and DS (1) are all sick with cold / summer flu, DS is teething and just came out of a growth spurt Grin DS wakes up now around 10 or 11 at night because he's quite blocked up in his nose and wants a drink / cuddle. No problem there until last night: DS woke up at 1 and screamed and screamed with hysterical crying for an hour & no matter what we did we couldn't calm him down fully. After an hour he fell asleep in our bed and except for him both of me and DH didn't have such a good rest. The last few days there's been a bit more telly for DS, he's quite clingy and doesn't really want to play with his toys I think due to being sick. He's slept a few night last week with me at night because he couldn't settle in his own bed but last night was a new experience for us.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this, help our DS settle better or is this a phase?
I'm doing everything I can to ease / help his cold think vitamins, extra fluid and baby vapo rub etc etc etc
Any help or advice I would love to hearFlowersFlowers

Sounds like night terrors. Scary for you but he won't remember. If it becomes a pattern try and wake him 15 mins before the usual time to break the pattern . Have a Google about them . .

Night terrors? All you can do is ride it out, they're still in a deep sleep so not aware of you. I found the best thing was to just be with them but keep them in their bed.

Really?!? I read about night terrors but he looked so awake with eyes open and everything. We are already struggling a bit with him and his sleep because if we put him down at his normal 6 or 6.30 he wakes up at 3am happy as can be!! He used to be such an amazing sleeper Confused
Thanks @flapjackfairy and @babysharkah

Yes it’s night terrors, they can look completely awake.

Some children have them once or twice and then never again. It might just be associated with him being unwell.

I know it’s frightening for the parents but harmless and not upsetting to the child. Google it and you will be reassured.
