Totally confused. So how much daytime sleep should 1 year old have?

Dd turned 1 in mid July.

Had terrible stomach bug when she was 9 months old, which threw entire sleep patterns into tailspin for about 10 weeks. Wouldn't sleep at night or in day.

Now settled down again, but don't have a clue how much kip she needs as have spent so long with non sleeping baby!

eg, yesterday, got up 7.45am. Back for nap at 10.30am. Woke up 12.45pm. Then got very tired and grizzly until bed at 7.30pm.

Today, woke up at 8.15am, nap at 10.30am. Woke up 12.15. Next nap 2.30 to 3.30, and now won't go to sleep at time of writing (9.15pm)

Have noticed any nap after 3.30 stops her settling at night, but thought up to 3.30 would be OK. She likes to sleep long in a morning nap, then is horrid early evening.

Anyone got any help?

Difficult question really as it depends on the child and also what works around daytime activities.
I reckoned about 2 hours a day for my two at this age. DD1 did it 12-2 at 1y and dd2 was 2 1hour naps 9.30 to 10.30 then 1.30 to 2.30. Both in bed at 7pm and sleep until approx 7am.

To me it sounds like you want to be pushing her nap back nearer lunchtime so that she only has one nap but manages to last through until bedtime. eg 7.45 am to 10.30 am doesn't seem a very long awake spell for a 1yo.

Err I'm not sure exactly as our DS has always been a tad unpredictable with his day time naps, but I think roughly at 12 months they are meant to have about 14 hours of sleep per day.

I think at that age he would sometimes have a short nap before dinner i.e. about 4.30 - 5.00pm and that seemed to keep him going until bedtime, but had to make sure he wouldn't nap for too long at that time. Other than that I just went with the flow and he napped when he fancied it and it seems to have worked out ok for us.

Also I think they are all a bit grizzly around bed time regardless of when they had their nap !

Yes< I think her morning nap is too early as well, but she is yawning and rubbing her eyes, and when I put her down she goes straight to sleep......

Should I be aiming for a longer afternoon nap and no morning nap, or just an afternoon nap.

It is such a novel experience to have a sleep well, and not be knackered and grizzly alll day ( not just at bedtime!)

my ds has just turned 1 and now seems to manage most days on a long nap at around 1045 for around 1.5-2 hours and then nothing until bed at around 7 / 7.30.

although i am soon to be posting a new thread in sleep topic so don't know if i should be really using this as advice!

When mine were that age they slept 7.30-7 overnight and then a couple of hours at about midday.

If you don't think she can make it through on one nap it might be worth bringing her 1st nap forward to 10ish so that she hopefully won't be that tired and will do a shorter nap. Then you could bring the 2nd nap forward a bit to make sure she is up before 3.30 and therefore ready for bed by 7.

From what I remember of DS's routine at that age he did 10-11 and 2-3.30 (and continued to do so until he was 16 months). DD is only 9 months but she already often only has 1/2 hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. So I would imagine she will have dropped to 1 nap by the time she is one.

I think 14-15 hours sleep out of 24, I would aim for one afternoon nap of around 2 hours. Try changing the timing of her morning nap 10 minutes per week. Is she just learning to be very mobile?
